Which reviews do you usually read? Of course Unc' is great, but he only reviews the big movies, and even then, they usually come a month or so late. And, yes, we do have the wonderfully critical Jatraqueros to fall back on sometimes, but not all the time. So who do you read when Hatrack and its host have seemingly ignored or delayed a review? Who is trustworthy and who should be socked?
I usually read IGN, but only because it's convenient. I hate IMDB - I NEVER agree with them.

I pretty much only go to these two places for movie news, movie reviews, and dvd reviews. And I have DB to thank for love of chud. without him i'd still be scanning upcommingmovies.com or other crap like that!

www.selfmadecritic.com <-- reviews are spotty, since it's just a guy doing it for fun. . . but DAMN are they hilarious!

I also use rottentomatoes. It allows me to see what quite a large sampling of people thought about a movie, and check what individual critics say. I can also see critics' review histories, to see if their tastes run the same way as mine.

I have yet to encounter a critic who agrees with a sizable percentage of my opinions about movies. Sometimes I find they were right. Sometimes I find they were wrong. Sometimes I see the movie they praised and wish I hadn't. Sometimes I see it and dislike it for totally different reasons, or consider it passable even though I agree with what they consider problems.
I still haven't met anyone who thinks The Hulk was any good, but I really liked it; the only thing I really griped about was the comic-booky panels that jarred my sense of reality, and the critics all thought it was a great idea.
I devoured Event Horizon. I think the Phantom Menace was cheesy but fail to see why it was such a disgrace to Star Wars as people say (or what was so bad about Jar-Jar).
I just say that I have no taste and let it go.

I also use Rotton Tomatoes. I like the variety of reviews. But I have found that my own gut instinct on a movie is best for determining where to spend my money. I just likes what I likes regardless of the press around a movie.

I've read enough of his reviews over the years to get a good sense of what he likes and what I like... so, I usually agree with his taste for dramas and science fiction films, but his taste for comedies is way different from mine...

After he gave the first two LOTR movies three stars, and gave all the Harry Potter films four, and said Harry Potter was the next Wizard of Oz, I stopped trusting him. Now I believe he's simply a small, pudgy puppet for Time Warner/AOL.
