I've been studying for my chemistry final for hours. An epiphany has just struck me. As my mind tires from vast amounts of useless chemical knowledge, I have realized that chemistry serves only 1 real purpose: To make carbonated beverages be as delicious as they are.
Having pointed this out, I am now going to get myself a highly caffeinated carbonated beverage to help me stay awake study for this useless chemistry exam.

CHOCoLaTe <--Better living through chemistry.
You have to imagine this with boxes around the letters that make them look like they're from the periodic table.

Kaoshin, as a HS science teacher, I will valiantly decide NOT to be offended at your dismissive remarks. I'll simply chalk them up to pre-exam stress and fatigue.
And if you ever want to discuss what I think the real benefits of a HS chem class are, I'll be happy to. In a year or two, when the bad memories have faded a bit.
GOOD LUCK on the test!

FG, I majored in chemistry -- and for most of my degree, I not only hated it (in a "why the heck did I decide to MAJOR in THIS!!!?" way) but seriously considered changing majors. But I stuck it out (although I did make it UCLA's "General Chemistry" major, which allowed me to get out of several upper div chem courses and take a bunch of math and English courses instead), and eventually not only got my degree, but learned to like chemistry again.

I don't know what forum ettiquettre says about linking to a thread that is still on the front page, but I think you really need to remember this other use of chemistry.Posts: 894 | Registered: Apr 2000

Rivka, I have tremendous respect for all chem majors. UCLA's biochem classes are littered with the dead pre-med dreams of my friends. Posts: 1592 | Registered: May 2000

I was, God be praised, never pre-med. Which is good -- those people are CRAZY! And I say that as someone who was friends with several, and studied with 'em.
I wanted to do well; they were POSSESSED! The competition is insane -- and the rest of us poor non-pre-meds had to compete with them for grades too (at least in the curved classes, which was most of 'em).
