What does everybody like to do besides browsing Hatrack forums and hatchat/parachat?
I like Wakeboarding/waterskiing, jet-skiing, snowboarding, bike riding, and hiking.
I also like video/computer games too, but not so much as of late.
Anybody have any hobbies? I know this is a question that has been asked before, but I really don't know what you guys do for fun besides browse Hatrack, and I'm curious.

ludosity -- you do Aikido? I've done Aikido for the last seven years. I recently (this month) have had to stop going, though.

::began to put a Monty Python quote, decided it was too vulgar for this forum, reluctantly deleted it::
What do I do for fun? Well...I read a lot of fiction, read a lot of history, hang out with my wife, go on walks in the woods, rollerblade, cook, stuff like that. Now that I'm moving into a house of my own that needs some work, I'll probably be developing skills in home remodeling, woodworking, and that kind of thing, which I'm fairly excited about. I rent and go to a fair number of movies...in the spring we make meat helmets. Pretty standard stuff, really.

I did Aikido back in the early 90s, but stopped after I messed up my wrist and broke my toe. I started up with it again last summer (my god, has it already been a year? Maybe it was last Fall), but after straining my neck pretty badly, I finally came to the realization that, cool as it is, Aikido is not for me.

I go through phases where I dedicate myself to something then get sick of it and never go back to it. Although I generally claim to "do" it on a semi-regular basis.
So far these phases have included soccer, biking, juggling, dancing, singing, the piano, the guitar, jogging, jujitsu, tai chi, and probably some other things. Sadly, none of them have ever been school or work. I also almost never do any of those things any more. I guess my current phase is video games, which kind of depresses me.

mph - I love Aikido. I studied for 2.5 years before I moved to Europe. When I came back, my sensai had to take time off to battle cancer (I studied at a private dojo). I don't have much spare time anymore, but when he's recovered enough to start teaching, I'll definitely find the time.

I'll give you a hint, Nick: it's wrong in the title, but correct in the first line of your post.

I also really like hiking, reading, writing, and bike riding, but I don't do them often enough to include them in this.

Right now I'm obsessed with making very large, very detailed cross-stitches on fabric with very small squares. (24 per inch, 13 1/4 by 18 3/4. It will be about 144,000 stitches when I'm done, and will take about a year to do.) It's so relaxing and I actually have something when I'm done, unlike when I read for weeks at a time. I'm doing one based on "Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu". (Watch it!)
When the new Women of Genesis book gets here, I'll be reading that.

Noemon -- it comes down to the fact that I can only really support one major hobby in my life at a time, in addition to my work and my family.
After a seven year haitus, I have gotten back into music. This time, it's bluegrass guitar. After trying to do both for over six months, I realized that I only have time to do one right. As I compared and contrasted the two activities, I realized that my Aikido is fundamentally a selfish activity. I do it because I enjoy it. Me doing Aikido doesn't help anybody except for my dojo mates. (Unless I ever use it for combat -- an unlikely eventuality) But music -- I enjoy sharing that with others. I both enjoy practicing, and I enjoy sharing it.
So, that's why I quit Aikido, at least for now. I have injured myself countless times, including a broken toe, and never quit.
*sad at losing Aikido*

A few years ago, I would have said reading, movies, and music. Now I can't really list any of those as things I choose to do for fun! I guess college really killed my interest in them.
Nowadays what I do for fun is create things in 3D, build furniture, try to learn web design, and come up with a bizarre new cockamamie project at least twice a day.
I guess I've gone from more passive to more active hobbies. Comes with the (mind-numbing) job, I guess.

I do Tang Soo Do, read, watch movies, and generally do something artistic. My current artistic outlet is drawing comic strips, though I'm thinking of taking a short break from that to make some more interesting refrigerator magnets.

Really? We used it in Taijutsu...I assumed that it was used in most martial arts. (Was your teacher Japanese, or other?)

Our Aikido dojo is definitely more on the traditional end of the spectrum of martial arts, and there were a lot of Japanese terms used every day. It's just that hajime wasn't one of them.
Instead of that term, clapping was used. When it was time to start, the instruct would clap twice. When it was time to stop, he would clap twice again. When you heard 4 claps, it was time to line up for the end of class.

Let's see. I like to play volleyball, usually 2 or 3 times a week -- rec league on Tuesday nights, pick-up on the weekends. I like to read -- mostly fantasy or science fiction. I'll usually go to a movie at least once a week.
I'm addicted to hockey. I'm a season ticket holder and spend a ridiculous amount of time hanging out on MetroBoards.com. Things aren't quite as busy there during the off-season, so I'm hanging out here for a while. When/if the season starts, I'll probably be there more than here.
Oh, and I collect comic books -- mostly X-Men and its spin-offs, but I also pick up a few other titles: JLA, Teen Titans, Daredevil, Outsiders, Runaways, maybe a few others I'm not thinking of at the moment.
