My best friend just got a girlfriend, my roommate and my former crush are terribly, depressingly happy, and my little brother even has a SO.

... I hate being single.

The basic conceptual tragedy of all the noble Hatrack Breeding Experiments (HBE) is that while potential mates may be well suited for one another, they also have staggering odds against being within driving distance.

I mean, some of us make do anyway, but still. Oceans suck major bad-mojo.

Note, I said, mildly. [Smile] We definitely need to put those two on the "Hatrack Hookup" list.

Feh. When we weep our outcast state, we remember the happy times.

When we sober up, single life isn't quite so bad.

“Do you come here often?”

How you doin’?
– are those space pants?
Because your ass is out of this world.
And is it it hot in here?
or is it just you?

Hey, you dropped a penny
…and my number.
Remember my name, too;
you’ll be screaming it later.
Now, can I buy you a drink?

My friend thinks you’re hot.
So I have to ask
What’s a nice girl like you doing
in a place like this?

Do you believe in love at first sight,
or should I walk by again?
Honestly,
If I could rewrite the alphabet,
I’d put ‘u’ next to ‘me.’

Hey, baby.
Didn’t I see you in my dreams last night?
Nice shoes, wanna –

“Hi.”

That line has never failed me.

Another one that has always worked for me is.

"Shall I try a lame pickup line, or can I just buy you a drink?"

Ok, i've only used it once, it worked, up till I was kicked out of the bar, that pesky not being 21 thing.

Morning comes and morning goes with no regret
And evening brings the memories I can't forget
Empty rooms that echo as I climb the stairs
And empty clothes that drape and fall on empty chairs

And I wonder if you know
That I never understood
That although you said you'd go
Until you did I never thought you would.

-Don McLean, Empty Chairs

Actually, I don't feel like that song at all. But Katie's link made me laugh (mega props for despair links) which somehow triggered the fact that she's said she likes the song Vincent which naturally led to this song as it's by the same feller.

And so it goes.

I think my favourite semi-bitter love song is by the Philosopher Kings. Actually, I think my favourite album about girls is their Famous, Rich, & Beautiful. But the song I'm thinking of goes a little like this:

we don't make love in the afternoon
on the stairs, in the rest room
when you're here you're never in the mood
you don't love me like you used to do

I don't know 'cause I've been wrong before
something's gone behind the bedroom door
it's in your kiss it's in the way you move
you don't love me like you used to do

I haven't really had this exact experience, I just love the song. It grooves. [Smile]

I missed you so much that I begged you to fly here to see me
You must have broke down because you finally said that you would
But now that you're here I just feel like I'm constantly dreaming
Cause something's gotta go wrong 'cause I'm feelin' way too damn good

It's like everytime I turn around
I fall in love and find my heart face down
And where it lands is where it should
This time it's like the two of us should've probably start to fight
Cause something's gotta go wrong 'cause I'm feelin' way too damn good
Feelin' way too damn good

-Too dam happy, by Nickel Back

Yep, it's kinda like that.
You know she's done with you, but she just hasn't thought of a way to let you know,
she wants to just tell you, but you'll never let it go.
As you can tell I'm just a wee bit bitter about the last one,
But then again, she was a bit of a bum.
I'm glad to say, she's far away,
Too bad I see her every other day.

It's ancient history, so I think it's a great time to stop bringing it up.

(this isn't stryker, this is someone who finally doesn't have to hear about it everytime she talks to any of her friends, and would like to keep it that way)
