Yeah, but as I look at I can feel it happening to my own head, even though the nearest wall is like a foot behind me and not approaching my head at any high speed. It just feels painful even when I look at it.

It's not that painful. I do it all the time. Oh wait, that may explain my slurred speach and those wierd flashbacks from Vietnam...

I think humans just lack the ability to do it properly. If you'll notice, the little red dude can bend his skull to conform to the brick wall. I'm sure that reduces a lot of the pain.
