Apparently, Elizabeth Edwards felt a lump in one of her breasts duing a campaign trip last week. She got the diagnosis yesterday.

I hope so. The road ahead will be rough, but I hope she survives.

One of my older women friends calls this "being drafted in the Great War."

Attending a run for the cure some time ago was an absolute eye-opener. So many women running for themselves and for others diagnosed.

I heard this on the radio while I was out - my prayers are with the Edwards family.

I have never had much experience with this disease - no woman in my family has ever been diagnosed with it. But, I participated in a charity auction on Ebay to benefit breast cancer charities. I'm not acting like I did much, mind you, all I did was hand-dyed a couple of scarves and agreed to donate the proceeds. In the process, though, I met a lot of women who were survivors themselves, or were relatives or loved ones of people who had lost their lives to it.

I was so moved by so many of the stories I heard, and so impressed with so many of the women I met. The woman that bid and won my auction, is an 18 year survivor herself, and she bought the scarves to give to her sister, who is a four year survivor.

Now I feel an extra bit of sadness when I hear about a new diagnosis of this disease - my heart goes out to Mrs. Edwards and my prayers that she will defeat it like so many strong and wonderful women have. [Frown]

Oh, how terrible. That must be so--wow. I don't even know what to say.

My mother had it, and I always worry about my chances of getting it. They say alcohol is a factor, and she was a heavy drinker, so I am hoping that I'll be safer since I don't drink.

Biopsy a Positive Signe for Elizabeth Edwards

quote:
WASHINGTON -- A biopsy has shown that a lump in Elizabeth Edwards' breast has not spread, a family spokesman said, as the wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards commenced chemotherapy.

...

A needle biopsy of Edwards' lymph nodes Tuesday found "no indication of cancer," spokesman David Ginsberg said. "From what we know now, it has not spread."

As a safety precaution, however, doctors will remove some of her healthy lymph node tissue. Edwards will then undergo radiation.
