Post: Someone had to start this thread. Its the one where you know, someone starts a story and then everyone else just adds to it.
the name is what I got from inputing "random name" on the elvish name generator. I didn't have the brains to make up a name right now. sorry. The start isn't that good either, but I hope it developes into a good story. Hatrackers...anything goes(as long as a previous post isn't downright contradicted, like changing the sex of a character or denying something happened, like if someone is killed, you cannot revive them on the next post. I'm sure you get the idea...).

Marry a dwarf. The dwarf was very rich, which is why the girl's father chose him for his daughter, but she feared his heart was bad.

The night before the wedding was to take place, Eressë paced the length of her room, a small and drafty chamber not more than twenty feet across set at the top of a thin stone tower that overlooked the cold sea. Determined to make her escape -- to avoid both the plight of marriage to a dwarf and what she was sure would be an awkward first meeting with her wicked family -- she began ripping long strands from her bedlinens and...

tied them together into a long rope. Worried that something so flimsy could hold her weight, Eressë thought up a new plan. She tied the rope to her heavy oak bedpost and lowered it into the bushes below. Then she hid herself in her armoire and waited for someone to notice her escape. When she heard the footsteps outside her door,...

she held her breath so as to not make noise, and peered out from a crack. It was her mother, whom she had barely met the day before.
"Eressë, where are you?!" she said with alarm in her voice. She had noticed the makeshift rope on the bed post.
Great, thought Eressë, she fell for it. Now all I need to do is...

that it was now or never, she had to leave now when no one was home. She had prepared herself enough and took out her bag with some food and clothing and slipped out the window. She headed south, to the woods of Anwarünya. Everyone feared that place, they wouldn't look for her there. She set out, and took one of the mares from her father's stable. The faster he got to the forest, the better. She did not know wheather or not the mare had been named, but seeing how she was so tame, she named her Gilraen. Gilraen was the best horse in the stabe, completly white and with the speed of a thousand other horses. Eressë got to Anwarünya in no time. She dismounted Gilraen and...

...immediately regretted choosing a horse a thousand times faster than any of the other horses; her legs felt like wet pasta, and it was only by leaning up against one of the spooky trees -- which doubtlessly had one of those stupid elvish names her family liked -- that she was able to keep from flopping down into the soggy, half-rotten undergrowth (which was probably called something like ameniluminenodandrielanathor, if it had a name at all, and revered by elves for its mystical property of being more soggy and rotten than anything else since the Men came and ruined everything). Luckily...

Luckily, she had remembered to bring a handkerchief because her nose was running. She pulled it out of an inner pocket and blew. Much better. Now she could detect a smell rising from the undergrowth...a sweet smell that reminded her of old cook Rosarita and her fresh sweet rolls. And she thought she could see a light, just a little ways into the trees. Like the glow of the warm castle kitchens. Stashing her hanky back into a pocket, she...

she thought to herself: "I just placed a dirty hanky in my pocket." She removed it and decided to place the hanky on the ground as a reference point in case she got lost in the ever-so-feared forest.

She now noticed the glow had changed colors, and was now a deep hue, much like the color of the sky on a starry night. She approached ...

she came nearer and realized that the glow was coming from a stone on a pedestal. She feared touching the stone, perhaps it was dangerous.
Instead, she read an inscription on the pedestal.
From what she read, she knew this was no ordinary stone, it was magical.
The inscription read:

"This is no ordinary stone. This is magical."

But it said it in Elvish, which she could read, having developed an interest in it after she pulled a bookcase over on herself when she was 2 and suffered a nasty blow to the head by a thick Elvish tome.

The rest of the stones, which were larger and much nicer looking, were nonetheless ordinary, according to what the Elves had inscribed on each of them. Still, she took the time to inspect each of them and discovered that one was made of...

She jumped back, as a belated -- very belated -- voice blared out of the small plastic "stone" she had been inspecting; it was clearly a cunningly-disguised loudspeaker. But knowing the elves, it was probably a magical loudspeaker, powered by the hearts of eagles instead of a 9-volt battery, and what she took for plastic was probably something woven out of the extruded goodness of the first snowfall on Hiarnathawanagloriathan.

Eressë looked at the stone as it continued to speak, with a @.@ look on her face. Ignoring her feeling of dread, she took the blue stone, and suddenly, noticed she was tired. Her horse was already napping, so she cuddeled next to it and slept. She was awakened by someone yelling her name. Her family was looking for her. She grabbed her things and mounted her horse once more, ignoring her soreness, and galloped her way through the woods. The trees seemed to bend for her passing, they seemed to be leading her somewhere.
She came to a stop, where there was a clearing. The sun came in from above and there was bright green grass. She dismounted once more, and...

Feeling fresh and rejuvenated by the rich mineral bath, she let herself be whisked away to the facial salon where her skin was gently cleansed, briskly exfoliated, and then pampered with a delicate, sensuous moisturizer. Next, she visited the massage room where the deft fingers of a certified masseur worked soothing oils deep into her muscles. Her day at the spa concluded with a complete pedicure and foot rub, and then she was off to the dungeons to await questioning by the Commissioner. Her cozy dungeon cell featured an accommodating late-model sofa, where she rested lightly until...

...the bill arrived. "Oh, dear!" said Eressë, because she was exactly that sort of person, and raised her hands to her lips in astonishment as her brow crinked in concern. She turned to the small goblin who had delivered it, and attempted to explain, "I never had any use for money in the tower."

But would they? she thought. True, Mother and Father had sent for her; but she hadn't seen these woods in nearly seven years--about 80 moons, as they might put it. Of course they'll pay, she thought. They are royalty now, and of course they need me. The masseuse was probably their idea in the first place. But I will not be purchased with mere hospitality.

Deciding it was terribly rude of the Commisioner to keep her waiting so long and having no idea what she was supposed to be seeing the Commisioner about anyway, Eressë opened the door and wandered down the hall. She only stopped to window shop a few times. Fearing her parents would think to look for her in the boutiques surrounding the day spa, Eressë got back on her horse Gilraen and headed for the Haunted Oak.

"Only a complete idiot would travel to the Haunted Oak on purpose, so of course I'll be safe there," she told Gilraen. Gilraen only snorted.

On the way...

she encountered an elf. He had long black hair, a kind expression, was very handsome, and appeared to be expecting her since he was sitting on a branch and as soon as she passed by him, hedropped down and greeted her.
"Welcome to these woods, I am the elf Gwindor Súrion, and I have been expecting you, milady." he said in the most beautiful male voice Eressë had ever heard.
"Just why have you been expecting me, a simple human, may I so boldly ask?" she responded.
"Because beyond this point is the Haunted Oak, I am well aware that many tongues warn that it is a point of no return." he said.
"I am well aware of that, sir", she said, "but I canoot go back, for if I do I shall be forsed to marry someone I do not love. Is that not a point of no return as well?"
Gwindor sighed.
"Then I beg you allow me to escort you, for a lady like yourself would be in grave danger alone."
"I am quite a fighter myself, sir, I have never been defeated in hand to hand combat."
"Very well, but I must insist, I know the way and I could be your guide."
"If you insist, then you may lead me."
"This way."
He started to run with remarkable speed and grace, Eresse could barely keep up with him in the woods. The trees were not as dead as on the other parts of the forest and vegetation seemed more dense.

Eressë gave out a little shriek as her hair tangled in the branches of a tree. "Help! Gwindor, help, I'm stuck."

As she stopped thrashing and looked around, Eressë realized the woods had grown too quiet. Where were the bird calls and scampering squirrels? "Gwindor? Where are you?"

The brush off to her right rustled. She could hear the wet sound of panting and smell the hot, decaying breath. Certain Gwindor must have betrayed her to this beast, Eressë settled into the best fighting stance she could manage.

"Whatever you are, I shall defeat you." The leaves crunched under the sound of heavy feet. Eressë gasped as...

Gwynsor leaped out from he trees.
Eresse shrieked again.
and before she noticed who it was, she kicked him in the groin.
"you moron!" she yelled once she had recognized him, "Why did you do that?!"
He just laughed, and knelt to the ground bearing the pain *ouch*.
"if you were afraid of me when I just played a simple joke on you, what will become of you in the Haunted Oak?", he said.
"That's not for you to question!", she continued, "I tell you I'm a good fighter and can fend for myself."
"Kind of noticed that, Eresse." replied the elf.

"Besides," said Eresse, "what you don't realize is that that's not an oak, it's a redwood. If people can't even get the name of the tree right, how true do you think those stories are?"

Nevertheless, she took her dagger in her hand as she continued on, and was soon glad she had, for as she crossed the path toward the Haunted (not an) Oak, she saw...

"Don't frighten the light faeries, they won't harm you", replied the elf.
"Well, I needed to see, and they were inhibiting my sight." Eresse replied as she put her dagger away.
"As you wish, just remeber that harming these sort of faeries may bring horrible luck to you"
She was in another clearing in the forest where light seemed to be radiating from the tree itself. Eresse knew at once she was in a very sacred place, so she should be careful.
Eresse went nearer to the tree.
There was a very mystical sign posted there in elvish which said:

Story: say that if you ate something bad for you, it would have dire concequences. Eresse looked closer, and discovered that it was only a piece of parchment stuck to the real plate. She threw it aside and read the words that were ment to be read. It said:
quote:
Broken men fix the world
Eresse wondered, what could this mean?
"The meaning is very simple Eresse", said Gwynsor, " haven't you noticed that it is mostly the people deemed weak by society that usually do more things for it?"
Eresse pondered.

AofD: any time. [Evil]

After 24 hours of pondering, she was beginning to feel faint. So, she decided to go find some food and ask someone what they thought this meant for her.

She looked around and spotted a funny little shack with a delectable smell coming out of it. She walked up, and saw a woman in long, flowing robes cooking hamburgers and fries. After checking to ascertain that they were served with plenty of her favorite condiment, ketchup, she ordered one, ate it, and again tried to send the bill to her parents.

Unfortunately, the mysterious woman said, "We don't take credit! Don't you read?"

"But I have no money," said Eresse, "and I was hung'ring unto death."

"Well, you can work it off," said the lady, who was actually quite kindly for all her mysterious-ness.

As they went in to wash dishes and clean the hut, Eresse decided that this lady might have an answer for her. She was just getting her courage up to ask when...

A large knight stepped out into the light. "Excuse me," he said, coughing in between words. "Do you happen to know where I could find an herbalist about my cold?" He cleared his throat again, the noise that had sounded like a growl.

"I don't live here," said Eresse. "I'm just trying to escape an arranged marriage."

"Oh, many pardons," said the knight.

"No problem," said Eresse. "But perhaps you can help me. Do you know what this means, and why I should heed it?" She showed him the paper on which she had copied the mystical inscription down.

Eresse turned, it was an orc with it's hand ready to strike her. Eresse was quicker than it and grabed its head jerking it fast enoughto break its neck, it fell to the floor dead.
The woman came into the room with a not so nice face, its was actually twisted with evil in a very horrible way.
"So, it is true, what they said about you was true." she said.
"What do you mean?"
"I've contacted your family, they will pay a large sum to have you back you know."
Eresse couldn;t believe it.
The evil woman shut the door and Eresse noticed there was no other exit. She stayed in the darkness with the dead orc for at least an hour's worth of weeping over her destiny, when suddenly a tthere was a knock under the rug she was sitting on.
"Hey let me out." whispered a voice.
It was Gwynsor.
Eresse was sitting on top of a trap door, so she moved and the elf came in.
"Hurry, follow me. I can take you to safety! This tunnel leads to my home in Fëanáro Lake" he said.
"Sure, th-" she began.
"Thank me later, lets go now."

When they arrived at the bottom of the ladder, Eressë noticed the knight had followed Gwynsor and her. "What are you doing, good knight?"

"I have failed you, milady. You were a damsel in distress and I did not even see the orc until you had dispatched it. I must remain with you until I have saved your life."

Gwynsor sneered, "I can look after Eressë just fine. We don't need your help."

"Please, my honor is at stake."

Eressë shot Gwynsor a dark look. "Of course you can come with us. These tunnels pass near the dwarven lands. If they know of them, they may try to waylay us."

"Yes. Gwynsor is taking me to Fëanáro Lake. I'll be safe there from my evil parents. They want to marry me off to a dwarf."

"Traveling past the dwarven lands will be especially dangerous then."

Gwynsor sneered. "These are ancient tunnels the dwarves have forgotten about. Only the elves have long enough memories to know they're here. Eressë will be fine."

Eressë frowned. "Please, Sir Chad, you never told me what the note said. Gwynsor thinks it's important."

Chad's face darkened. "I'm sure he does. It says..."

"It says that there is a way to break the ancient seals that guard the cell of Daerwroth. And that one has already been broken, and that the power of Malichor is again seeping out into the world."

Chad turned a dark gaze to Gwynsor. "You would know of this, surely, son of Gwynsed."

"I know nothing of cells and seals," Gwynsor growled.

"You have been protected far too long from the failure of your father, Gwynsor," spoke Chad in a louder voice. "But perhaps now it is at last time to answer for Gwynsed's folly."

Gwynsor rose, and fury mottled his face. He...

turned. "Who do you think you are? The follies of my family are not to be known by mere knights like yourself." said Gwynsor.
"The truth will reach thw world's ears someday" said Chad.
Eresse tried to ameliorate the situation.
"Please, let us not confront each other at this time, we must make haste. Besides, I still want my horse back. I fell we will need it at one time in our journey."

Gwynsor relented. "There's a side tunnel up ahead. It should take us to an exit not far from the hostel where Gilraen awaits you."

The tunnel was damp with time, and lichens grew in cracks on the walls. Sir Chad lit a torch from his backpack. The light played across the dwarven runes of warding, giving the tunnel a sinister air.

"Come on. Who knows what lingers in these dark places?"

Sir Chad's words proved prophetic for around the bend he came face to face with...

...the reality that a plot shift was taking place every three minutes.

Plus, he had to fight off a large, slimy creature that almost bit his head off.

After that, he stopped walking around corners without checking first.

Elesse asked, "Why is there a tunnel here?"

"It's convenient," Gwynsor replied.

"The continuation of the story depends on this tunnel," warned Chad. "It is very important that we stay in it for a while."

Elesse was about to reply when she heard...

Gilraen was munching contentedly on some grass growing up through the dank undergrowth. "Oh Gilraen, I'm so glad to see you're all right." Gilraen whinnied and shook her head.

As Eressë picked up her bridle, Sir Chad asked, "Why would the dwarves build a tunnel system from the Elven forests into Elven lands? And why would it be large enough for a horse? Dwarves can't even ride horses. It doesn't make sense."

Gwynsor said, "Only because you humans know nothing of history. Thousands of years ago when my father was a young man, this forest was the center of Elven culture. Dwarves traveled here to sell their metalworks, weapons, and hire out stone masons. The ruins of Lassilimithis lie deep in the forest, her dead still manning the walls."

Sir Chad said, "Please elf, these are no tales to tell in front of the princess."

"How did you know that?" Eressë asked.

"I heard the innkeeper taunt you. What, you don't think I'd risk my life for a commoner, do you?"

"I suppose not. Come on, Gilraen, let's go find this lake."

The only notable event along the way was...

When she finally lifted her face to the sunlight, she felt reborn. Eressë turned around to face her companions, but they were not there. She blinked and stared, yet the place was empty.
'Where are you?' she screamed, suddenly a little afraid after all those hours of suspense.
She heard a faint sound and felt something pass her head. She looked up, and there they were, the big horse flying with Gwyndsor on his back.

"This is my horse, Elladan." said Gwynsor as he landed and dismounted, "I received it from the Red Wizard Enthiriel after I saved is life many a year ago."
Eresse did notice that the flying stallion was very emotionally attached to Gwynsor, like an old and dear friend.
