Hubby woke up at 2:30 this morning, jumped out of bed and ran for the bathroom.

He didn't actually vomit, but he said he could feel the burning in the back of his throat. He was also belching a lot and said he could taste dinner and bile.

He took some Tums, but they didn't really help.

He's never had a stomach-acid problem. Could it be something more serious?

I have heard that heart attacks can be preceded by severe indigestion???

Or is that labor? I can't remember. One of those gut-wrenching things. Maybe both.

I've heard labor, but not heart attack.

However, it's probably a virus; that's what usually hits me like that.

Actually, nausea and vomiting can precede a heart attack. But that is only one of many things that can cause things such as your husband had.

If he's not having any shortness of breath or feelings of pressure, then I wouldn't look toward heart attack. Could be simple flu.

How long did the feeling last? Does he still feel nauseated?

Could be the beginning of acid reflux. Worth getting checked out. Without another occurrence, I wouldn't make an emergency appointment.

It's probably only sligthly more likely that he's having a heart attack than the chance he's in labor. Probably a virus.

If it recurs then it's worth checking out. I doubt it's anything serious though.

I never like to say "don't call your doctor" because it's always better to err on the side of caution, but since they can't do much for viral infections anyway, it's probably a case where you can wait and see if it comes back or gets worse. [Smile]

Is your husband overweight? Did he eat shortly before bed? What you're describing sounds like acid reflux to me.

Has he stopped using lead-based paint as a condiment, yet?

He was never nauseated, per say. No queasy belly, anyway.

He is overweight (we make a jolly pair!) but it had been at least 3 hours between the meal and bedtime.

He's still feeling bad.

Still could be acid reflux. I had a bad series of it - woke up with a mouthful of acid several nights.

I got scoped, they gave me prilosec for a while, no real problems since.
