I'll be away for a few days attending a funeral in Ohio. My father's brother, the youngest and last of the three Helmbock boys, died late Tuesday night from complications of congestive heart failure.
I will be sure to tell you about him sometime.
It will be even harder than usual, as he made my mother's last few months somewhat more difficult, but he and his wife have been an integral, loving part of my life since I was born. I want to show respect, and I want to give her a big hug.
Money has been tight, but we found a way to fund the trip. We're down several thousand from delayed reimbursements for work travel, but there are ways. And next month, we'll be caught up again.
Meanwhile, it'll be a long drive with my husband and Leonard Cohen, a chance to give my brother his blue bowls, and another final goodbye to an old friend.
Keep me in your thoughts, please. I won't be online until sometime next week.
(And Olivia, I'll have to call you from the road. )

I know from my own experiences that sometimes family members can really drop the ball regarding the way they treat other members, but it doesn't change the fact that they are family and that you love them. Just remember all the good things he did for you and all the good memories you have of him.
I hope it goes as well as can be expected for something like this.

Sara, I'm sorry. (((((Sara))))) I'll be thinking a lot about you and your family. There's not much more to say...
