I think he might be on the right track... who actually wants to watch all of the boring speeches, and look at the various fashion statements of the red carpet? Not many men raising their hands... I think men tend to watch for the hosts, and sometimes, the presenters...

A Drudge exclusive...even with mis-quotes! "Only Gay BLACK men watch the Oscars" is how it could read, though even that isn't what Rock said. Rock never said "Only Gays watch Oscars" he said "what straight black man watches the Oscars?" Sheesh.
I do agree with his point about Awards for Art being stupid (he said it more colorfully). What is worse is that it is the artisans themselves voting on themselves and throwing a huge party for themselves. Eh...they got money to burn, why not!

Funny thing about the article. He was calling into question the relevance of some pop institutions. I think it's about time. I'd rather he err(and air) on this side than err on the side of a poser.
I'm not even sure that it's a slam on gay people. (It may be, but I'm not sure. It doesn't seem that there is anything wrong with saying that gay men watch the Oscars? It could be the same as my saying that fifty year old white men vote.)
The article is a slam on Bush, though, but when an opinionated man is asked for his opinion, you are going to get what you get.
Maybe some people won't like Rock for saying this, but I don't know any straight black men who care about the Oscars, including this one.
