Today is Icky's birthday. He is stuck working all day, and has rehearsal all evening. Needless to say, we won't be celebrating it much today. Here is a golden opportunity to wish him well, since he would never tell you that it is his birthday.

That's the Birthday Dirge, a staple of any SCA birthday event. It is sung by as many people as you can gather, in low, depressing tones, with grunts or whacks as punctuation. Nope, I could not make it to Charlie's, what with my schedulre today. Maybe next year. :-\

I'm really bitter about this: a couple of years ago I was in 1776 with the same director I have now for Man of La Mancha and it seemed like every other day was somebody's birthday. Each time, they brought a tiny little coffee cake type thing, and they had the whole cast sing "Happy Birthday." Lovely harmonies and all when a bunch of really good singers get together.
So what do I get today?
Nada.
I guess we (as a company) have moved on and are no longer as cozy as we once were.
