I've been thinking about doing this for a while. Let me know what you guy's think.

[Smile] This one is a Fish its carved out of burled maple and is about 8" tall. The base is a Manzanita root.

[Cool] This one is an abstract piece called "Trinity" . It looks like there are three main parts, but they are all connected. So it’s sort of a 3-in-1 thing. It's also about 8” tall and carved out of one block wood.

[Smile] And here are some Christmas Carvings I did as gifts last year.

Those are cool Carver. What part of SC are you from? I have been waiting a long time for another Hatracker to be in this state.

I'm impressed SC! I'm interested in sculpting, but have only just begun working at developing what skill I have at it with any seriousness whatsoever. Do you work in any mediums other than wood?

Thanks.

Each one takes anywhere from 20 to 60 working hours.

I am from Columbia, SC
and
I draw a little, prefer Pastels, but I think carving is my true knack is. I have only been doing it for about a year and a half. It seems to come naturally.

I'm particularly impressed that you were able to capture the essence of those Christmas special characters.

Are you self taught, or have you been taking classes?

Those are really cool. Do you just od it as a hobby, or do you sell those at craft fairs and such?

My mom does GREAT stained glass, and she has been "commissioned" by us to make several gifts for weddings and showers. It is always nice to have something hand made rather than stor bought, IMO, providing you ahve teh time/talent do do that.

Or you are related to someone who can, like I am. [Big Grin]

Really, Carver, that is truly gorgeous work. I am completely impressed.

I am from Columbia as well. Welcome to Hatrack. This means I am no longer able to complain about a lack of Jatraqueros in my area. Thanks for posting the pictures of your work.

Thanks everyone.

Right now it’s just a hobby. But I am trying to work on some more pieces to start selling them. It just takes so long to make one. However I just purchased some new power tools which are speeding up the process. Power tools rock.

I am self taught when it comes to carving, but I did go to school for art, and worked as a graphic designer for a number of years.

Beverly. You are an excellent artist. Keep working at it.

Yeah, I usually don't appreciate more abstract art as much as others do, but that piece is really beautiful and quite moving in a way. I love it. [Smile]

I can't believe you're not selling these yet. They're beautiful!

My husband bought me a teeny tiny vase carved out of wood. It was pricey!

People will pay!

What a precious talent you have!

The fish and the Trinity pieces are my favorite.
