Yeah. I remember a *lot* of people were giving you guys a hard time, joking and stuff, and I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be funny if they were?"

The rudest was a girl I barely know at church who asked us if we were trying to get pregnant. I was thinking, "No, we're not trying. We succeeded." I think I just shrugged and changed the subject quickly.
The "When are you planning to have kids?" question was easier to dodge because we can just say, "Probably soon" or "Sometime in the next year, probably."
But the "Are you pregnant?" question--well, I usually couldn't dodge that one very well.

Then I believe it's Dana's turn. Personally, I'm waiting for that announcement next. (Jamie, I am just assuming you aren't having kids anytime soon. But let me know if you do! T'will be very excited if you do.)
But when are Dana and Bob gonna have a kid?

You mean the first baby of a couple that met on Hatrack? I don't know. Possibly, but part of me thinks there's no way we could be the first.

I hope your empathy for the child doesn't die away quickly!
Just kidding. This is WONDERFUL news, so wonderful that I want to hug you both. But remember that linguists' sons'n'daughters might end up like me. Yeah, that's the bad news.

Pish posh. Maybe you haven't stopped for as long as you'd like, but you've certainly stopped and oohed and aahed over tiny clothing and shoes.

I know. I was just enjoying my freedom from looking at tiny clothes as long as possible. But those days will soon end.

I admit, after 4 kids, I finally do not mind looking at baby clothes.
And anyone who asks us when the next baby is due gets the very honest answer of, "I think we're done."

I love the idea of bluntly telling someone it's none of their business, but I think in practice I'm a little too spineless. Usually the best I can do is to dodge the question.

Oh, I love baby shoes. The clothes are adorable, too, but the shoes just have me in tears every time I see them.

I just got my little niece an itsy witsy hooded sweater yesterday. And yeah, it's so cute I can hardly stand it. And then I think about that itsy witsy hood on her cute little head and I feel like I'm going to die.

I'm normally not that blunt. I usually say something like "I don't want to answer that question. So I won't."
