Help! Pod/Ted won't give me any ideas about what he wants (or needs) for his birthday and I have no good ideas right now. His birthday is September 17th but I won’t be around until the weekend of the 30th so I’m going to wait until then to celebrate with him in person (he lives in Columbus/Boston, I live in London, Canada).

Some of you know who Pod/Ted is but for those who don't he's a former hatracker who hangs out on other forums presently (so I feel safe posting this here). He's entering into a masters program in computational linguistics.

He really enjoys Settlers of Catan and its expansions- maybe another game along those lines?

He reads mainly fiction and science fiction and he bought a mac mini a bit over a month ago. So maybe something along those lines?

Past years I’ve bought him a good portable cd player, an mp3 player, a hard drive, books (Life of Pi, a computational linguistics “bible”, java books, etc), cds (Verve Remixed, etc), and other odds and ends.

[Dont Know]

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Jaid! Someone had a question about cake today, that would have been right up your alley.

Also, I have no ideas for gifts for pod.

But then again, anyone who can make their own flamethrower doesn't need gifts.

Ooops- this might help it make some more sense. Ted is my boyfriend of just under 4 years. He's turning 23 years old.

Hi AR!
Thanks for the heads up- I'll go check it out.

I'm not sure anybody "needs" gifts- but they're awfully nice to receive and give [Big Grin]

Does he have Munchkin? It's a card game that spoofs RPG's, very fun, requires at least 3 people to play.

Chrononaughts is good, too.

Too bad about the mp3 player. Here I was really looking forward to suggesting an iPod...

Wow, T...who ever told you about Munchkin, I wonder....

Too bad I never got Jenni to play it against me, she hates competing aginst me.

Rather, she hates losing to me, I guess... [Big Grin]

My birthday just went by, and my brother did the coolest thing for me.

When I got home from work the night before, he was really cryptic and wouldn't let me in my room. turns out he made a scavenger hunt in it - to find my present. Twas lots of fun.. sounds like you won't be able to do that this time though. So I guess I'm mostly just sharing. maybe for future reference.. donno.

If he likes Settlers of Catan, he'd probably enjoy the game Carcassonne. Ted would ALSO appreciate almost anything at all from a geek catalog.

Thank you for the ideas.

TSmith- I've never heard of Munchkin, I'll have to check it out.

Lalo- I'm actually considering an ipod, he's known to use electronic things "well" so I'm not sure the MP3 player I gave him is still working [Wink]

TomDavidson- I just gave Carcassonne to my brother for his birthday and he loves it. For some reason it just never crossed my mind to give a copy to Ted, how silly I can be [Smile]
