Hey, does anyone know whether or not I can play an imported CD from Japan on an American CD player?

It depends on the CD player and the CD. Most made now, yes. Some older ones with some CDs, maybe not.

Shh... are you people crazy? Talking about regions for CDs? Don't even joke about it, or that'll be the next "innovation". <shudder>

My father doctored a couple of our DVD players (yes, we have a few) so they are region 0, so it's probably possible with most players that with a little expertise you can make anything forget its region.

I have imported several Dir en grey cds from Japan. Totally works on American players But the cds are so ruddy expensive it is better to just buy the cd, dl the song anyway and then burn all 5 albums on one cd... I now seem to have half a dozen copies of those.

My dad has a very old CD player-- like, from when they cost upwards of $500. It won't play some imported CDs; it also won't play CDRs.

DVD players here, when they were all regional encoded, were always altered at the shop to become all-region. Apparently, it takes less than a minute.

Why bother doing this sort of work, when you can buy them region-free, brand new, for $29.99?

The cheapest DVD players I saw at Walmart's site were $33.44, and they said nothing about being region-free.
