I'm sure we've all thought about what we'd do if we ever won the PowerBall or Mega Millions; well, at least I have. One of my idle thoughts are musicians I'd have to buy the complete back catalogs of (albums, major EPs, ultimate live recordings, etc.)... Usually I've been a big fan, or have heard enough that I respect the musicions in question enough to consider all output as a mandatory accquisition.
Well, here is my list (add yours!):
R.E.M. U2 They Might Be Giants Tom Petty Rage Against the Machine Bad Religion Fat Mike (NoFX, Me First and the Gimme-Gimmes) Pennywise The Who The Beatles The Rolling Stones Tuatara The Voodoo Glow Skulls The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Nirvana Pearl Jam B-52s The Beach Boys Steven Merritt (The Magnetic Fields, The 6ths, The Gothic Archies, Future Bible Heroes) Blind Melon JS Bach Handel Mozart Jimi Hendirx The Doors Belle and Sebastian Man... Or Astroman? Vivaldi David Bowie The Muppets (particularly the movie soundtracks) Wierd Al [EDIT: Tool] [EDIT: More! Weezer Green Day Patsy Cline Roy Orbison ] [EDIT: Sublime] [EDIT: Still More! Queen Radiohead Beck The Clash Pink Floyd ] [EDIT: The Violent Femmes] [EDIT: Guns 'n Roses] [EDIT: The Monkees] [EDIT: Fugazi] --
I'm missing a ton of motown... I know the songs, but not the groups well enough

I know maybe half of those. I'd probably just go with Tom Petty, U2, and Johnny Cash. OK, and Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Sr, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings.

I'm a classical music buff, and I would also buy as many different performances by as many different conductors, musicians, and orchestras as possible. I'd also focus on a piece I love (Grieg's Piano in A Minor or Rachmaninov's #2) and try to amass the definitive collection of all the different recorded performances of it.
Bandwise, I can't think of any that haven't been mentioned above besides Nine Inch Nails and Black Sabbath.
