When people think "online dating," they generally think of meeting people online.

But what about actually having a date where they surf the web together?

I'm doing some research regarding free online services people can take advantage of to entertain themselves (and maybe even a date) on a Saturday night.

For example:

Instead of going to a concert, you can check out an episode of All Songs Considered

Instead of going to an art gallery, you can hang out at Deviant Art.

Instead of shopping, you can browse through Threadless.

If you had to plan an online evening of fun, where would you go? [Smile]

And no, this is not homework! And no, this has nothing to do with the fact that I'm too cheap to go out on real dates. [Wink]

Um, maybe visit this place?

This place

Or, maybe you could show each other your list of "not so good, perhaps even very bad" possibilities from places like this

Or, just to really set the tone, you could take your date surfing for places like this . . . a girl's best friend

or this . . .

Of course, it comes with a maid, dear

and finally, this . . .

sweet delight

[Evil] [Evil Laugh] [Razz]

Hi Beren! [Wave]

Hi Shan! [Kiss]

Wow! You move fast on your online dating! [Big Grin]

If you are into the fast track system, don't forget:

For the future.

The ultimate future.

[Blushing]

Gotta move fast -- time's a flyin' -- the mid-30's will soon pass me by. [Angst]

And you are absolutely correct in needing to include those other two links. How could I forget the importance of the child's future education and the couple's final thoughts? *tsk, tsk* Shame on me. Trust a professional like yourself to keep all those nitty gritty details in line. [Big Grin]

And have progressed from public flirting to public dating. Kinky!

I met her ne'er but we did e-date,
And got on well, so we did e-mate.
We got e-gaged and then e-wed.
I never knew her name was Fred.

All went well for our e-Life
So feminine was my e-wife
She never said, in all our e-chat
Where her sex organs were at exact.

Surprised, deprived, and scandalized
Though I admit, oft satisified
What comes next? Why, of course
I face the dreaded e-Divorce.

Now E-limony I must pay
To my ex-wife Fred, 10 Gig's a day
Half my bandwidth, A fool I am.
She got the Google, I got the Spam.

(edited to fix typo and rhyme scheme. No matter how I try, worse and divorce just didn't rhyme)

I would take a date to Fark.com and other humor sites.
If she doesn't have a sense of humor, why bother?

Bring her to Hatrack.

Will be gentle, honest.

I would recommend a couple of things, actually.

First, my reccomendation for a gallery setting would actually be worth1000. Excellent place.

You could always do a google hunt. Have a list of items that need to be found and the corresponding web addresses.

Instead of going to the planetarium, both can download celestia, and gaze the stars. I spent a good couple of hours on that.

I would recommend both starting a movie at the same time. Again, personal taste would be something like Firefly. Something as simple as browsing NewGrounds and linking each other to things you find would work as well.

Then you have that game site with scrabble and monopoly. Oh boy. Only if you let her win, though. [Smile]

Don't people already do this by leaving a chat window open/using skype and browsing together?

Dan that was terrific. If I bring a date to Hatrack, I'll make sure she reads that first! [Big Grin]

rivka of course we're weird! That's why we get along so well.

Shan, the 30s are the new 20s. We've got plenty of good times left.

T_Smith thanks for the great recommendations. The photoshop galleries on worth1000 are awesome.

The forgotten verses, because I just can't leave these things half done.

Between verse 2 and 3.

Her pic was hot, sexy and cool
Was photo-shopped. I was a fool
Our vid chat was all in good taste
Never traveled below the waist

Until the day her camera fell
And what I saw, I can not tell.
Her Adams-apple, and shame on you
Thinking "thingy", well I saw that too.

[ROFL]

In 6 years of my Hatrack life, I think I've only used the rofl icon twice. Well, this was certainly worthy of it.

No, m'dear -- yourself is awesome; thrifty is a nice extra. That's what will help with those long-term plans relating to college education and retirement. *grin*

KQ -- We'll have to go shopping sometime! What great finds.
