The general premise of the commercial was one I could agree with "Laugh more, it's healthy." I don't care that they want us to be healthy to improve their bottom line, I like it they encourage us to be healthy and especially to laugh becuase I *love* laughing.
However one of the comments in the middle of the commercial irked me and I think it's indicitive of a wider trend in our culture.
A woman's voice said "Laughter reduces stress. And I should know! I've been MARRIED 49 years!"
Why the swipe at marriage? What possible benefit can their be in implying that marriage is a stressful thing!?
Maybe I'm lucky (Ok, I know I'm lucky) but even the most irritating thing my husband does is bliss next to the stress, loneliness and misery of being alone. Married people live longer, healthier lives! The love and affection another person brings into your life is what makes life worth living.
And this isn't the only place I've seen it. Commedians, TV shows, even in general conversation people bitch about being married.
Is that *really* the message that young people should be getting?

I agree. It's why I hate all these shows about marriage. They make me NOT want to get married if I have to deal with a stupid husband and become a shrill naggy wife that won't even let my mate chill out and play poker if he wants to. Though poker would eb stupid, why should someone else get his money? No, But if he wants to chill out with other doods and stuff, why should I bother him? Why should i have to nag some guy? I hate beign told what to do myself.
