I've been perusing sewing [blogs], and this one is specifically about brassieres:

I think I should wait until I'm home from work to check it.

The phrase "undergarment sewpersons" makes me smile.

It's a technical site about boning, ribbed vs. unribbed, cup sizes ... uh, yeah, wait on that one.

I'm not going to point out which parts, but this is OOCT gold.

Ct, have you come across any other good sewing blogs? I'm not so much into making my own underwear, but I want to make complicated things like hats and boots someday.

Yes. You must remind me again if I don't update this soon. I'm on my way out the door.

Edited to add:

briefly:

-- period pieces at http://www.bayrose.org/wkneedle/index.html (West Kingdom Needleworker's Guild (SCA))

-- corseting and feminine pieces at http://www.ericabunker.com/index.html (Erica B's DIY Style)

-- bespoke menswear and tailor writing at http://www.englishcut.com/archives/000215.html (English Cut: thomas mahon, bespoke savile row tailor, london) -- not sure if there is much instruction here, but it's an interesting read

-- knitting and knit finishes at http://www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/01/the_steeking_chronicles_part_ii.html (See Eunny Knit)

-- multiple issues at http://thesewingdivas.wordpress.com/ (The Sewing Divas)

Also you can peruse the blogrolls of those sites for good stuff, e.g., the industry-geared Fashion-Incubator at http://www.fashion-incubator.com/mt/)

CT - thanks for thinking of me. Yep, I know all about her blog - useful information. [Smile]

I was also going to recommend fashion incubator - she's seriously anal about doing things properly, which I tremendously respect and admire. She's got useful information and explains things very very well to the point of major lightbulb moments for a lot of people. Her blog post on pectus excavatum (I think it is) to explain why commercial bras do not fit - and will not fit - on women with this particular anatomy (body shape) is excellent. Actually, many many many posts of hers are just plain excellent.

English Cut is also excellent - ran across that one many times.

The others I haven't seen before, so I'll check them out, too. Thanks, CT! [Smile]

I'm getting ready to sew my next bra pretty soon. Got my underwires and channelling in the mail (although I'm really not impressed with the way they packed it - in a nearly empty far too huge box, which resulted in much higher postage costs, delays at this end, and going unnecessarily through customs with even more delays at this end), so I'm good to go. I have been trying to costume a solo piece I'm doing for a concert at school in October. I know more about corests, vintage underpinnings, and the technical terms for every variation of tutu and their parts than I was ever wont to know.

Thank goodness I finally just found a great tunic at Forever21.

I wonder if any woman as prudish as I could possibly know more about boning. HA!

porcelain girl, sometimes you just gotta go with the good and easy.

---

In news semi-related to this thread, I just found a fall Emmanuelle Khanh coat for $7 [secondhand].

[Eek!] [Eek!]

I wasn't looking for a coat, but the cut and drape of this drew me from across the room. It is gorgeous.

*happy

kwsni!, I'll add to that list [ http://sewingfantaticdiary.blogspot.com/ ] (Diary of a Sewing Fanatic), which led me to http://artisanssquare.com/sg/index.php (Stitcher's Guild forum), which looks awesome.

Sweet.

My next project is a big piratey-type coat, and I'm dreading doing the tailoring.

I found this: http://www.taunton.com/threads/pages/t00002_p2.asp page, though, and I think I'm gonna make one. That should make it a lot easier to fit it without contorting myself.

Ni!

Stitcher's Guild forum is really good. The people there are also pretty anal about doing things properly. [Smile] I haven't been there in a long time, now that I think about it...
