Does anybody play (or has anybody played) this? It's not as corny as you might think. It neither is as complex as Magic: The Gathering nor has as many cards, but it's fun to mess around with.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here are the basic rules, and here is a gallery of recent (i.e., currently tournament legal) cards.

Are any of the cards from 10 years ago worth anything yet?

I lost my love for the Pokemon fad after they expanded beyond the original 151...my mind and heart just don't have room for those additional monsters.

On that note, I did once collect the cards, and I still have my holographic Charizard in mint condition. Still got my fingers crossed [Wink]

I was in 4th grade and a guy tricked me into trading him my hologram blue thing for some cheap one [Frown] . My card was worth 50 dollars! I was so sad.

I played Magic quite a bit, and still play from time to time. I check in with the Legacy format tournament scene every now and again; if I ever live in a bigger urban centre I might go back to it.

Never tried Pokemon, though.

I second this question. Though I think I might have long ago traded most of my rares for store credit, so it might not do me much good.

Thats for the entire first edition set. Non-first edition doesn't appear to be worth much of anything.

On the other hand, alpha and beta set MTG cards are worth a fortune. Beta booster boxes go for over 15k iirc (if you can find one). Beta Black Lotuses can go for over $1500.

EDIT: tinyurl.com

I bought a box of cards about 8 years ago when I worked at a toy store, even though I had no interest. It's still in the plastic. Identical to this item:

I think I paid about $7 at the time, most places where I see this listed it's about $10. So, not a promising investment so far. [Smile]

Oh yeah. I liked Pokeman. When I was seven. [Razz]

That holographic Charzard could be worth a shitload though.

My husband and I played that game when we were merely dating. And oddly enough, we never felt embarrassed about buying the cards or talking about it with friends. It was a really fun game. I can't remember very well, but I think my deck kicked butt because it relied on the surprise Kangaskhan.

He tried to get me into Star Trek, but I never liked it as much.
