I'm looking for a 2.5" external hard drive enclosure so I can transfer files from the hard drive of a dead laptop. It's a 30GB ATA drive (I don't know the exact specs, but it's from an HP Pavilion ze4200) with Windows XP Home installed on it.

I don't care if it's AC powered or USB powered, though it does need to be USB and not Firewire or some other interface. I don't need any other fancy features, though I would like something on the small and lightweight side.

If anyone has recommendations for a model or brand (or warnings about which models or brands to avoid), I'd very much appreciate it.

We have one, but I don't know what brand or model it is. I'll see if I can find out. And yeah, we bought ours for the same reason. [Smile]

The important thing about enclosures is to not run them too long. There's no fan and usually no ventilation, so the hard drive can head up very very fast.
