I still don't have a job.
I have yet to be paid for the job I did last month for a few days.
My taxes are due on the 15th.
Is it possible to pay part of the taxes instead of the whole thing?
Unless I get that check sometime this week, I can't pay a dime. My unemployment is running out next week.

You can file an extension, but you'll pay a 25% penalty on the liability (I'm talking to KPC on the phone right now.)

His advice is pay as much as you can, give them time to process the return, and then call to set up a payment plan. If you can't pay, you can't pay, but it's going to be a bigger penalty. Pay them something, anything, if you can. Borrow money from a friend to avoid the penalty if you can, that's the best solution he can think of. The payment plan is also going to incur fees.

And in the meantime, have you been nagging about the payment for the job you did last month? Why haven't they paid you?

urg. Fees.
It's like getting punished for not having money I hate that.
I'll just have to pay a small amount, then, when I finally do get paid for that job I did back in March (I hope that wasn't a scam, you got to admit, it would be effective, make a bunch of people come over, do the extra work and be like, oops, forgot to pay you!)
I'll pay from that money and be able to get the stimulus refund thing. A decent amount I hope.

I emailed her a couple of times.
She said it takes a month to process the payment!! A whole month!
I'd love to telecommute, but if there's not enough structure, it's not worth it.

If you don't pay on time, you won't get the stimulus payment-- it will be applied to your arrears (and the penalties will still apply.)

You got to be kidding me! I need that stimulus package, come on!
Arg. This is so frustrating.
My unemployment is getting cut off, I need that money! Why is all this happening, this really sucks. [Cry]

Syn, it's a GOOD thing that they apply that money toward your arrears. Less for you to pay-- and if you don't pay, they are able and quite willing to take it out of any paycheck you ever make until you are caught up, or empty your bank account, or... Trust me. You want them to take that money.

I really don't. I need it.
All I have is 300 dollars in my account.
I'll pay them through that. I'm supposed to get that money from that job soon (BUT WHEN?!?!?!) and there's one more unemployment check.
This means though, that I can't pay towards my rent this week.
Not to mention that I've got to pay part of my phone bill too.
Arg. I am so sick of this. It's only 210 dollars, why can't they wait or something. I don't want to lose 600 whole entire dollars that I need because of 210 dollars!

You won't lose the entire stimulus payment. Just the amount that you still owe to IRS plus whatever fees you incur for late payment or a payment plan.

It's only 210? If it's only 210, yeah, they'll only take the amount you owe in arrears and fees, you'll get the rest.

But can you borrow $200 from somebody, and pay them back when you get the stimulus payment? That way you won't have any late fees.

(A payment plan would be preferable to filing an extension and paying late, if you can't. I think they have a low-income payment plan fee that's about $35 instead of the usual amount, and if you file an extension and pay late, the 25% will be $52.50.)

Maybe you could sell some stuff. CDs or whatnot.

BTW...I would like to know what "mayfly" means in this context.

I was going to take it from that job I did.
But it hasn't come yet.
So I may sell my pocket watch : o( and these pretty plates and cups that I have but do not need.

I'm surprised you have to pay into IRS, Syn, and not get a refund instead. Because I thought you were unemployed a lot of the year, or at least not making a whole lot.

If she was working temp jobs, they probably weren't taking out the appropriate amount of tax - if any at all. I know when I was temping, they treated me as an independent contractor and I had to pay a ton at the end of the year.

I've never collected unemployment so I don't know if that's taxed before distribution.

I'm pretty sure it's not. From what I remember, it's treated as regular income, but no taxes are withheld.

When I was unemployed in MA, which is where Syn is, you could have it withheld. I don't know what the default was. I'm pretty sure I made sure I got withholding.

Syne, would it be possible for you to hold down a fast food job or something for a few months?

I don't know.
CVS hasn't gotten back to me.
Ocean State Job Lot either.
But, there may be a temp job at State street, and a guy told me to call him back about some possible jobs, but then he wasn't there!
I'll have to call him tomorrow morning.

My little sister explained to me that just because I work a job I'm not proud of for a while doesn't mean I have to put it on my resume. That had never occured to me.

I honestly don't remember what job that would have been. In her case, it was a cashier at Trader Joes.

So call CVS, and the Ocean State Job Lot. This is a situation that demands you be proactive. Did any of the suggestions from your last thread pan out?

pooka, what's wrong with cashier at TJ's? I hear they're pretty good to their employees, and around here that'a a pretty standard college/just entering the workforce and need something while looking elsewhere kind of job. [Smile] That and In-N-Out.

I have called CVS two times. The second time they said fill out the application online.
Which I had already done.
I went to OSJL, having filled out the application in December, but I didn't have time to fill it out again because I had to go to the doctor over chest tightness and this darn itching of the tongue.
The job specialist I went to (i discovered this place having applied for a job there) was rather helpful and redid my resume and printed it on snazzy paper.
SO I will go to the job fair tomorrow.
See what happens.
But the irratating thing is that few places are hiring and I had to leave off my college info on the CVS application, but it's still not working.
