Salinger's death will (most likely) actually allow the publication of several of his never-published works. So I think I disagree with your summation.

Unquestionably a bad day for writers, though.

They don't usually come quite so rapidly. I think the last trio of actors (I think they were all black actors too) we had all died something like two weeks apart. I'm expecting to hear some aged author died any minute now.

I didn't realize he had so much unpublished material. Supposedly, visitors have seen stacks and stacks of handwritten notebooks, and he hasn't published in decades.

I'm wondering which family member got the rights to his material, and what they'll do with it.
