Are we allowed to talk about alcohol on Hatrack? If so, then I need to mention this. My girlfriend heard about UV Cake vodka and decided we needed to get it. I tried only a sip (I have work to do) but she had a full shot and said it tasted the same. It tastes exactly like birthday cake, and I can barely taste the alcohol. It's really crazy, and I have no idea how they manage to do it while it still being 60 proof (not the standard 80, but still high). It's like dessert in a glass.
I wonder if you mix it with chocolate liqueur whether it'll taste like chocolate cake?

That sounds interesting, I might have to give that a shot.
You should also check out whipped cream vodka. This stuff is the full 80 proof and tastes like you're drinking whipped cream. I've thrown it in a white russian on occasion, and it's excellent.
Other great substitutions for white russian drinkers are vanilla vodka, or substituting the milk with ice cream. mmmm....

They need to tax the cake-flavored and whipped-cream-flavored vodka twice as much as regular. Liquor already causes too many social problems.
Man, liquor is some bad stuff.
I'm fairly certain that people binge drink because they want to get really, really drunk really, really fast. Not because alcohol is just so darn tasty.
This, like other mixed drinks that have minimal "alcohol" flavor, could certainly contribute to people accidentally drinking too much, of course. But that's a whole different issue.

I'd heard of the salmon-flavored vodka (perfect for breakfast with a bagel and cream cheese!), but cake and/or whipped cream? I need these in my life, pretty much now.

I can also vouch for the tastiness of whipped cream vodka. It was a "secret ingredient" at one pub I went to, and it was quite delicious. However, White Russians that I've had in the past had a clear vodka taste, and this one doesn't, so I guess its use depends on how much you like that hint-o-vodka.

White Whale, White Russians are my favorite drink, so I do have some sympathy for the idea that they should be unsullied. But vodka itself doesn't really have a "taste", it's like the water of alcohols.
So depending on what you like about White Russians, adding a bit of vanilla flavor to it may or may not be up your alley (I'll agree that standard vodka seems to give it a bit more of a kick, but I usually go Kahlua heavy on mine anyway). Same with the whipped cream and the ice cream instead of the milk. I find them to all be fun variations. Though I would strongly recommend to never try the alternative Kahlua flavors. The standard Kahlua is far superior. As a final addendum, if you ever order a White Russian at a bar, make sure to specify Kahlua, otherwise they may try to Kamora in your drink!

I am going to have to look for it and take it to the next party. I don't drink, but most people in the partying crowd I sometimes hang out with do. They are always talking about flavors of alcohol, and this one sounds intriguing.
But it also seems a bit bizarre, kinda like some of the ice cream flavors out there. I wonder if it's a single group of people that develops both (1) new ice cream flavors and (2) new alcohol flavors?... Posts: 274 | Registered: Apr 2000
