I tried to find the original thread, but I think it got deleted.
Anyway, I just watched "No Strings Attached" and it was very good! A real surprise, I was expecting it to be craptacular. It was downright charming.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is great. It stars Alan Tudyk from Firefly and Tyler Labine from Reaper. It's a great play on the cabin slaughter genre.

For TV shows I netflixed The League recently. It's a hilarious sitcom about some friends and their fantasy football league. You don't really have to know football to get the jokes. My new favorite show.

'Downton Abbey'. It's BRILLIANT! A period television show focusing around the family and staff of a British estate starting with the sinking of the Titanic and going through and past WWI. Sounds dry, but it does a great job of making its characters defined and making you care about them.
And Maggie Smith is golden and hilarious as the conservative grandmother.
Also check out "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon". It would be a nice companion piece to 'Tucker & Dale'.

It shows that story and characterization trump things like setting and style. It's also a great example of how to use melodrama effectively.
I've watched both season 1 and 2 (only the first is currently on Netflix streaming), and will be watching the X-Mas special this week at some point.
Out of curiosity, given the massive size of the cast, who happens to be your favorite character? Mine is Carson, though my favorite storyline belongs to Mr. Bates and Anna.

I recently watched the entire series of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was truly amazing, as far as cartoons go. The humor and plot twists in the show are some of the best I've seen in any TV show, including live action.
Now, however, I'm stuck finding a replacement to that. I've been scouring Netflix looking for a decent cartoon or anime, but so far I've only found mediocre replacements. I've already seen Fulmetal Alchemist and Trigun, both of which were great, but I want something new.

I watched Deathnote off of Netflix recently. I enjoyed it, though it took a couple episodes for me to get into it.

Death Note is a fantastic show, but you do need to get into it. It's extremely intense at parts. I've always wondered if watching the live action movie was worth my time.

I actually started watching Death Note last night. It's pretty good so far (on episode 8 right now). I usually don't watch shows that aren't in English (this one's only in subtitles), but so far it's definitely not bad.

Its too bad that Netflix only has access to the Japanese version, the English dubbed episodes are some of the best work I've seen in regards to syncing animation to a new language no to mention the great voice acting in general.
I've watched plenty of anime in Japanese but some shows are downright unbearable under those conditions, imagine watching old DBZ episodes and seeing at the bottom of the screen "aaaaaaaah... aaaaaaaah." And yet I've grown to hate Bleach in english, weird right?

It really surprises me that they don't have more English dubs on Netflix for the popular shows, but they do for the lesser known ones. Bleach, Naturo, Inuyasha, and Death Note are all in Japanese for some strange reason. There must be some kind of licensing issue or something, because those shows are some of the most popular animes among kids in the US.
Oh well, at least Fulmetal Alchemist is in English.

And much of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is streaming, it really is just a better told version of the story.

You know, its been almost two years since I watched Lo but I'm still impressed by it. Making a movie that is 90% conversation and set in near darkness is quite brave and they did it wonderfully, the story is actually about love despite its Hellraiser image. And really, who doesn't like a little song a dance with demons?

Bacano! Is also really great.
I'm really not into anime, and the ones I do like aren't on Netflix, Bacano! really surprised me.

I've been using Netflix to watch a lot of TV shows which got cancelled before I could see them. I've been really enjoying Reaper which got cancelled at the young age of two seasons.

I've seen all of FMA: Brotherhood (own all the dvd's) and I thought it was brilliant. Loved the characters, story, and voice-acting.
I haven't seen Baccano yet, but it's in my instant queue. I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I really hope I can get into it.
I've also been watching Being Human (the North American version). It's pretty good so far, but there's only one season of it (13 episodes). Season 2 has already been made and starts airing this month, so there's more coming. If you want more, the UK version (which is the original) is also on netflix, and I think there's three seasons of that one.
Oh, Being Human is about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost all living together. I usually hate stuff like this (Twilight and Vampire Diaries are, in my opinion, quite horrible), but for some reason I like this show so far.

I thought the UK version of Being Human was fantastic (at lest for the first 2 seasons) but I couldn't make the switch to the American one. The characters just weren't for me I guess.
I don't have Netflix, but if Spaced is on there, everyone should watch that show. It's really good.

Spaced is on Netflix, and it's definitely worth watching. There's a surprising amount of BBC content on Netflix. Fawlty Towers is on there as well.

Being Human UK is fantastic, but I can't bring myself to watch the American version, I just don't think it was necessary. Also its difficult to get away with some of the best parts of Being Human in the states, my favorite joke is when George sees someone has painted "peedo" on the front door and yells out to the neighborhood "there is only E in pedo!" I don't think humor like that would get past the censors.

Being Human UK is must more of a human drama. Not surprisingly, the American version is way more focused on the supernatural elements. And the American cast doesn't have the same playful energy as the British cast. And the characters were written with relatable quirks (Annie and her tea, the boys discussing silly television). I watched a few episodes but got bored.
I need to give Spaced another try. I tried to watch it once awhile back and couldn't get into it, but maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it.
I did watch Fawlty Towers last night actually. It reminds me of the first time my dad introduced it to my brothers and me, back when we were in high school. We drove my mother nuts with the Manuel quotes for a month straight.

I'm curious about the picture and sound quality. I don't mind if TV show are just TV show quality, but if I watch movies I want at least DVD quality sound and picture.
Also, I assume the download consume Internet bandwidth. Have any service providers complain about excessive bandwidth? Or attempted to raise rates?
When you are streaming a download of a movie, does the Internet speed of everyone else in the house slow to a crawl?
There are a lot of obscure indy films I'd like to see, but they will never play within 100 mile of where I live, and in some cases not within 500 miles of where I live, and the local video store will never have them in stock.
Typically, rather than drive 100 miles each way, it is cheaper to simply order them on DVD and add them to my collection. (such as it is)
I've considered Netflix, and might consider looking into Blockbuster down loads, but I have my doubts about the quality. Plus, I'm not sitting and watching movies on my computer. I need to find a way to stream them to my TV.
Just curious about the experience of those who have used the service.

I stream using my nook and my wii. I haven't had any problems with the quality but one device is a 7-inch screen and the other is hooked to a tv from 2003 so I may be used to it. But it never looks worse than a dvd usually does.
I have the cheapest high-speed internet plan that my cable provider offers. I don't notice any changes to my internet speed outside a few extreme exceptions. Doing heavy downloading on my laptop while streaming on my tv is just a big no-no. One or the other quits working.
The biggest value to me are the recommendations for films and tv shows that I would not ever thought to try. Titles of movies that I'd never even heard of. Just the other night I watched an interesting documentary on the history of Native Americans in film. Quite interesting and I wouldn't have known about it without netflix.

I just watched D13: Ultimatum, the sequel to the Luc Besson produced French parkour action flick D13. They definitely upped the budget and for particular scenes provided great sets for parkour in a single room. The world of D13 was expanded and the new characters fleshed out without taking a lot of time on them. There are some definitely recycled ideas, but they do come with superior funding and locations. If nothing else you should watch this for the cop character reintroduction.
Oh, and in case anyone that is paying attention to this thread who didn't the original, Lo and Ink are two very unique indie films that deserve a watch.
Also streaming is the latest Kevin Smith film, Red State, nsfw (inspired by the Phelps whacko's) which he toured theatrically himself and released as VOD before taking it to DVD and streaming. This is his first foray into action and horror and is totally unlike anything he has done in the past. I know Hatrack is not brimming with Smith supporters, but you might be surprised with the content and gravitas of the movie.
And if you like this one, also check out "Tell No One," another french thriller from 2006. It's based on a Harlan Coban novel and in pacing, style and mood is quite similar to "Point Blank."

Eerie, Indiana is now streaming! Its a great scifi for kids show from the early nineties. Episodes like "The boy whose dental head gear picks up dog telepathy" or "Immortality by tupaware."

I'm watching episode one right now, its creepy how much I remember but its aged really well. Even if it is overwhelmingly nineties its still better than Spongebob and reality television.
Salute your Shorts, now that is a show better left to the passage of time.

The wife and I have been watching Mad Men. Usually I will make it a point to avoid any show that has won more than one Emmy, but I decided to watch an episode after hearing a co-worker tell me about it.
I am hooked. While watching the show I actually felt like I was watching an HD recording of the 1960's. The acting is top notch, and with the exception of January Jones (can't stand her) the cast is excellent.
Give it a shot, it really is an excellent show.

January Jones seriously hurt Xmen First Class, a movie which needed all the help it could get.
I'm watching Life, a cop show about a wrongfully convicted, then released after 12 years(and made rich from a settlement) homicide detective ginger with freaky lips.
It's a bit of fun, and they only made two seasons (1.5 really since the first one is only 11 eps). The main detective had to adopt zen sensibilities to withstand the brutality of being a cop in prison, and his unique perspective helps him solve cases with his beautiful but hard nosed partner, while he behind the scenes searches for the dirty cops who set him up.
One of my favorite moments on TV is in the pilot ep. ##SPOILERS## The detectives are looking for a suspect, who is armed and shooting while shouting about how he never killed anyone. The main character shoots him and clears the suspect's shotgun. Now dying, the suspect keeps repeating, "I didn't kill no body." and the detective smooths back his hair and says "Shhhh, it's okay, it was just a dream." Chokes me up man. He did his job, did what he had to do, but still had the humanity to comfort the dying.
It is because of this scene I gave the series a shot, and by and large have been enjoying it.

It seems they've added almost every Marvel animated movie.
I strongly recommend the Hulk Vs. movies as well as Planet Hulk, and Thor. Dr. Strange, and Iron Man are good, but not amazing. All of these can get you better acquainted with the comic continuity really fast. Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2 are pretty bad, the animation is pretty spotty and they adapted all the bad parts of the Ultimates. They're not too long and if you're interested in getting into the Ultimate universe they may help, so there is that.
