I teach 7th grade music class (not band).

I want to draw some parallels between the Englightenment and Classical music (the period around 1750 to 1825). I want to discuss the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn and such.

Is there a simplistic way I can present the ideals of the Enlightenment, so 7th graders can understand the big picture? I have the connections in my head, but I know I am going to have trouble discussing these topics in a way that these 12 year olds will understand.

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.
