I got the call today that "A Key Turning" won first place in the annual contest held by the local paper. There was a 3k word limit, and 1st place pays $250. They will print the story in its entirety sometime in August. There were 60 submissions this year, and the editor who called had some very encouraging words for me. I am ecstatic. This story first saw the light of day in this forum, so I want to say thanks to those who critiqued my first 13 lines. Special thanks to wbriggs who critiqued the whole thing. Your suggestions were invaluable.

I live in Albany Georgia, so the paper is the albany herald. Their website is albanyherald.com. They are going to contact me during the next few weeks to get a head shot and do an interview. They will print my story sometime in August. I don't know yet if it will be in their online version or not.

Wonderful! So hard work and talent pays off, huh? You will post a link if it's in the online version, won't you?

Here's the link. Winners are listed in "the zone" section. And now I reveal my true identity. Stacy Worth is Crotalus. Okay, I'm officially through with this thread. (That is until they actually run the story).

Here is the link to the actual story. It went online today. I was very pleased with how they presented it in Sunday's paper. The photo illustrations were great and the interview made me sound marginally intelligent. All around a great first publication experience. Rejoice with me, but more importantly READ IT!

Congrats! I noticed in the bio that your wife's name is Staci. How, exactly, to do you answer when someone calls and asks for Stay-see (written roughly phonetically).
