This has been a transitional year for me, in regard to life and work, and much of it has been engrossed in a project I hope to share with everyone in the next 48 hours since it involves a number of our fellow WOTFers.

Meanwhile, I'll share that my very first Writers of the Future contest Finalist story has just been reprinted in Neil Clarke's More Human Than Human: Stories of Androids, Robots, and Manufactured Humanity [Night Shade Books].

I'm thrilled to, at last, have a story accepted by Neil; and to have my little tale (okay, not so little at 11,000 words) appear among the likes of Elizabeth Bear, Ken Liu, Charles Stross, Rachel Swirsky, Ian MacDonald, Catherynne M. Valente, Alistair Reynolds, Cory Doctorow, Lavie Tidhar, and some (super-talented) bloke named Martin L. Shoemaker, and others.

This book may be the first collection I'm in to actually land on bookstore shelves, and resulted in my first mention (don't blink, you'll miss it) on Publisher's Weekly

..and even made one reviewer's top seven favorites (out of the twenty-seven tales in this mega-volume):
quote:
AND THE ENDS OF THE EARTH FOR THY POSSESSION by Robert B. Finegold M.D.

This novella is built on the premise of an alternate post-WWII world, and a New Europe; it is a very intriguing world. Rabbi Albert Makal and Officer Danel make a compelling pair. Danel is an automaton and I loved how he evaluated his status in the universe with faultless logic. This is a very well-written story, in spite of the haphazard French, which I hope will be corrected upon final editing. I really liked this one.
--Monique Daouest, FreshFiction.com

My luck to be reviewed by a Master of Linquistics fluent in French. [Smile]
I knew I should have studied harder those five years in French class - over forty years ago.

So while no new stories of mine have been (as yet) accepted this year (a year mostly dedicated to editing, as I hope to soon share with everyone), I cannot say it has been a "terrible" one for me as an author.

Respectfully,
Dr. Bob

We haven't met, however I think congratulations are in order. I myself have published exactly no words, let alone whole stories: short or long, so you're ahead of me there.

Bet wishes.

Okay, and one other big thing for this year:

Join us for LAUNCH!
And bring your friends. [Smile]

I'm pleased to share the launch of our Kickstarter Kickstarter to support the production of 3RD AND STARLIGHT, an anthology of 14 tales by 16 rising new stars in science fiction and fantasy. With 15 interior illustrations and amazing cover art, this is a stunning collection I believe readers will long enjoy.

Please consider supporting us, and spreading the word.

Early reviews:

"Delicious and exotic creations by some of the best new writers in the speculative fiction field.”
– William Ledbetter, 2016 Nebula award-winning author of “The Long Fall Up.”

"Every piece has its own delights!”
– J. Kathleen Cheney, Locus award-winning author of “The Golden City.”

"Vibrant new voices. Remember these names!”
– Martin L. Shoemaker, WSFA award-winning author of “Today I Am Paul.”

Respectfully,
Dr. Bob

P.S. And please consider Sharing and Linking the Facebook announcement https://www.facebook.com/robertbfinegold/

P.S.S. And to round out this trifecta, I finally threw up . . . I mean [u]put[/u] up an author's website, a work-in-progress: https://www.robertbfinegold.com/

TRIPPING THE LIGHT FANTASTIC - Editing a SF and Fantasy Anthology (the Interview)

What fun!
Read here:

Chief Editor Fran Eisemann of Cosmic Roots and Eldritch Shores takes the pencil from behind her ear and stares me into a chair to answer questions about my first foray into indie editing and publishing with 3RD AND STARLIGHT. Dark room, bare bulb hanging from the ceiling, something unseen sniggering wickedly in the corner . . .I take a few moments to reflect.

KICKSTARTER UPDATE DAY 1 - 3RD AND STARLIGHT: 24% FUNDED!
