Shimmer has triple their pay rate from one cent to three cents a word. They're headed for pro rates as the magazine can afford it.

I'm not sure Robert, it doesn't say in their guidelines. You could always query them. But they're quite well respected and I don't think I'd worry about when I was getting paid.

Mostly it's old habit...back in ye olden days, when dinosaurs ruled the earth and there was no Internet, the top print markets were those that paid on acceptance...the bottom markets were those that paid on publication...often long after publication, if they paid at all.

Not that I know anything about this from experience...except one market that once bought a story and promised me ten bucks on publication, and so far, hasn't either published or paid...
