I might want to submit somethign to these folks early. I like the sound of them giving more feedback for people that reject and letting you know how far down the line you got. And if i get a few sells there maybe they'll remember me when the pay rate goes up.

Over at PSM we are looking for books to review too. We haven't got much response on this. We are looking for self published and small press books. More at the website at the top.
Eventually we will need a book reviewer, as I won't be able to do it every issue along with everything else I have to do to get the issue to print.

How is the magazine shaping up? Getting swamped in submissions? Things slowing down or is the submissions growing in number? Find anything you love? How about art submits? Any familiar names?
I see the return time on duotrope is getting longer. Not sure if it means you're taking a break or word of a new market is getting around. Let us know how things are going. We want to know.

Currenlty I have 62 unread submissions in the que, 20 awaiting second reading, 3 awaiting third (and final) reading, and around 120 that have already been rejected. So, overall the response has been overwhelming. This doesn't count the 9 that were accepted for Issue 1.
We've had a few unprofessional responses to our rejections, but the writer response is overwhelmingly possitve.
Issue one will be out August 5, I have accepted 9 stories for that issue. We will have a book review (hopefully) and three artists (possible a fourth).
I was hoping to have a comic serial too, but no submissions on that.
I never thought the submissions would come in so fast and hard. There are a lot of really good ones coming in, and they are getting harder and harder to choose from.
There are some familiar names coming in that I know from other publications, such as DSF. Unfortunately I know most Hatrackers by the handle they use here, and not by name.
Subscriptions are low. An Electronic Subscription is free. A print one is priced to compensate me for printing costs (I don't make anything off of it).
I'm getting exctied about seeing this first issue. Can't wait to see the Cover art. Updates come in on @PlasmaFrequency on Twitter.

See folks? See what you're up against? It is so hard to get published, even in the semi-pro markets. 120 rejects and 9 acceptances. That is a 1 in 13 ratio, and many of those submits are from SFWA authors (I know from news on another forum). Getting rejected has less to do with what you write than it does with the sheer number of stories you have to beat out.
So for those who have made a sale, give yourself a pat on the back. For those who haven't, keep trying. Writing takes passion, don't let that passion die.

You are exactly right snapper. We have not even been open for submissions for one month. I never would have expected this response.
I am even more surprised by the word of mouth going around about this publication. It seems it is spreading like wildfire.
As far as the SFWA thing, I was only aware one was a member. Of course they are not required to disclose that, and it really isn't a factor.
There is a lot of talent out there. If I had the money I could publish two or three magazines bi monthly. I can only echo what Snapper said, don't get discouraged and keep trying.

Plasma has gotten awfully quiet. If duotrope is any guide, you haven't done much slushreading for about a week. Everything okay? How are things shaping up anyway?

Don't worry Snapper, we are hard at work on Plasma Frequency. Issue 1 is in full swing. I just made the final markups on the layout. Soon it will be off the press and we will be reading full speed again.
Duotrope is a bit misleading though. We have several stories on second and third readings for consideration for Issue 2. Though we are plugging through the new submissions too.
Things are shaping up good in all aspects but advertising. It appears I can't even give away free advertising (see the post in Grist for the Mill). So far only one Hatracker has taken me up on that.

There is still plenty of space, so if you got some works you want to publicize you can contact me at the email in the other thread. I'm more interested in helping Hatrackers than focusing on self pub. I'll have to clarify that in the other post.
