1500 word maximum science fiction story. $1000 first prize. Four runners-up (no prize). Deadline January 15, 2015. Finalist stories to be read by professional actors at the L.A. S.F. One-Act Play Festival.
Here's the kicker: "Each Applicant hereby grants the Contest the non-exclusive right, for a period of one year from the date of Applicant’s submission of a Story, to forward the Story to one or more third party production companies, networks, or studios (“Producers”) to permit such Producers to evaluate the Story for possible acquisition by them for development as a motion picture, television, or other media project (“Production”)."
Chances of winning: about the same as being discovered while waiting tables.
OTOH, 90 percent will be total garbage (especially since the fools let you submit more than one story--they are going to be inundated) so anything we submit will be automatically in the top 10 percent.
