Been stuck on the editing train, putting the hours in but not the words. Was pulled off editing today by a new story. Well, not sure its a story yet, but a dynamic scene at any rate.

May I just say how much more eminently satisfying 500 well placed words are compared to 5000 slathered on a page to try to reach 50k? (Which I did, but, yuck...) I thought I would take all of December off, just completely burnt out with writing. And then this little butterfly of contemplation came to whisper in my ear. And so I am indulging myself in going slowly, in filling my sentences full of adjective-y goodness even though that's not what you're 'supposed to do'. Ah, solace for the soul.

1,147 new words today, 1,500 printed words, do they still go by that? Was good to write something new, as I have been editing, and working on a basic outline for my next project.

826. It took a while. And that number is over 3 stories. Laughing to myself, some nights it comes too hard. First story only managed 33 words, I liked them, but didnt know where to go from there, was story I hadnt looked at in a month. The second story, well 11 words-one sentence, and moved on.
It took a while, but I found my story for the night and hit 782 words, and they are keepers.

1,186 tonight. Again, wanted to spend the evening plotting or thinking, but forced myself to turn on word. And the words came. On a side note, was not going to post today, until I saw someone else had posted. I feared this thread was slipping away.

Well I took last night off, Patriots game. But, had some scenes that sketched out for me to write tonight. Just under 700 word increase on the count, I figure it is closer to 1000 new words, as I deleted a couple hundred as well.

No. I must admit I am no "writing fool," at present. Just can't seem to maintain the creative writing focus the past couple of months--perhaps post-novel completion rebound?
I've also been trying to make up for this past year's neglect of the family during the time I was consumed with writing THE KABBALIST. Thus, I took the missus to Paris last week, and the daughter to Sugarloaf this week to ski with her friends (well, "ride/shred" actually); and we're all going to a Matisyahu concert tomorrow evening in Portland. I'll ski with my brother, and buy him lunch, at Sunday River this Friday -- he's proven to be a truly invaluable asset as a proofreader.
Then there are the books I put aside and have now picked up again to read...
In an attempt to jumpstart my creative juices, I allowed myself to begin more than one story (and one intended collaborative novel) in hope one would possess me.
I've completed one <500 word piece: Dying In the Light, from an experience I had as an intern around a life-lesson from Jewish teaching. It was intended for an Israeli on-line English journal, but they had a 150-250 word limit, and I just couldn't get it down to so few words and convey the truth of it.
I completed the outline and wrote 950 words of The Golem of Chester Court this afternoon (while the daughter napped). I had hoped for this to be a short story, but I suspect it will be a novella.
I've got more irons in the fire, and a final read of The Kabbalist to do (and decide to send out copyright permissions or rewrite to remove their need).
Hope to get a few more hours tomorrow for writing. To you true "fools", I offer my envious respect.

1143 words today so far. Hoping for more as I still have an hour, but somehow feel if I write more, they will be wasted, and not good, unless I can somehow move out of this scene. Is hard to write when I am tired, my own words put me to sleep, won't be a good thing if my story does.

Over 1k today, and actually pleased with it. Anyone else have panic attacks before they start writing because it's not going to be as good as it is in their heads? Silly me.

1,005. Yipee. Getting a little worried that this piece is growing to an awkward length, too long for short and too short for a novel. But then who knows where it will end. or begins for that matter.

Not sure of the word count. But wrote and rewrote, for nearly 2 hours, which is longer than most days. Geez, Query Letters are just no fun.

Tiergan I post whenever I hit the 500+ mark. I usually go for 1000+ a day, but what the hell. It's been Christmas and I've got three kids to waste my writing time with
I really find this thread helpful and would hate to see it die because I stopped for Christmas, so post away.
You're not the only fool left, just the rest of us have gone really quiet (and slightly drunk) for a few days.

I've been uploading a chapter a week to a fanfiction site for a story I've been working on, about halfway through the second book in the series. Most chapters are in the area of twenty pages, or 10,000 words, so I'm managing to get 1000 words or more a day .

1,510 today. It was cool, I really thought when I sat down, I would have to cheat and write the ending the only scene that was vivid in my mind. But when I got going, I got to write the next true scene in the progression. So I still have the ending scene for a day when I things aren't so clear.

1,282. I had to use my cheat day, nearly 500 words and the scene never really kicked in the way I liked. Will probably use most of the 500 but had to abandon the scene for now. So I moved onto the ending. I put nearly 800 words there. Also spent a lot of time revising my query(not that it helped)
