Well, call me crazy, but I'm happy about a rejection! John Joseph Adams of Lightspeed just sent me a personal rejection, saying he enjoyed my story (Platinum Blonde) and it is nicely written, though it didn't win him over, and he looks forward to my next submission.
Am I insane to be happy over this? After 35 form rejections, I've gotten two personal ones in a row for two different stories. It finally feels like I'm getting somewhere.

Osiris, I really don't want to burst your bubble, but did your rejection read like this:
"Thanks for submitting this story, but I'm going to pass on it. It's nicely written and I enjoyed reading it, but overall it didn't quite win me over, I'm afraid. Best of luck to you placing this one elsewhere, and thanks again for sending it my way. I look forward to seeing your next submission."
From JJA this is a form, but it is a high level form. Not quite a personal, but still very good.

I don't think I've ever seen that one even when he did send a personal note about five years ago.
He said he liked my opening and something else I can't recall but I lost him in the middle. That was back at F&SF. With Lightspeed I haven't gotten above what I think is his second level form rejection. That goes for Fantasy Magazine also but I think he's only read a couple of mine for that one... and now evidently it's combining with Lightspeed.
So is this one his third level or higher?
