If that little blank isn't a hook, then I don't know what is. The name's Nick and I'm completely excited to meet (or converse with, since there isn't much "meeting" involved) you all. I stumbled upon these discussions a few days ago and haven't been able to peel myself away since.
Little bit about me: I'm a California guy. I'm from Los Angles, currently live in Fresno, and will be moving to San Luis Obispo in a few months. I have insane delusions of grandeur. But, hey, don't we all? I'm presently a college student, but I want to be a professional speech writer in the distant future. So what better way to tune my skills as a writer than to be knocked down a peg--or eighteen--by you fine people?
Looking forward to being torn a new one. Boy, this shall be throughly enlightening!

Thanks for the prompt introductions! You guys sure know how to make a newbie feel welcome.
LDWriter2: Wow, such a small galaxy! I didn't think it was necessary to state that I'm a COMMUNITY college student, but I guess you forced me to do so. I actually go to Fresno City College.
Never despise humble beginnings. I did my first 2 at a local community college, then transferred to the local university and completed my Mechanical Engineering degree. The interesting thing is that in my case the CC was actually a better school than the U.
Anyway, have fun exploring and holler if you get lost.

Nick, I hear that our COMMUNITY college is top notch. I've known people who have gone there. I took a couple of courses at another JC many many years ago.
So did you join in the water ballon fight at the Save Mart Center? I would have loved to watch it.
And what are you writing now. Or is it just one thing?

Josephine Kait: Sorry, I wasn't trying to say that attending a community college is a bad thing. I just know--from extensive experience--that lots of people associate community college with inadequacy. I didn't want my introduction in this forum to be pegged with a stigma that would carry over into my writing. I understand this forum is filled with accepting people, but I know there might be the select few who would hold such a simple thing against me.
LDWriter2: You're completely correct, Fresno City College is actually a phenomenal institution. When I first arrived, I was disappointed that I had ended up here. However, after a year on the Associated Student Government, I fell madly in love with the college. I'm truly sad to be leaving it in a few weeks.
I almost went to the H20 Balloon Fest but I got caught up with school business and couldn't make it. I heard it was a complete dud though. It's a shame a few people can ruin something so important to the community.
I'm actually not writing anything at the moment. I have a few ideas floating around in my head, but we'll see if anything comes of it. I'm here mostly to chit-chat with you folks and to participate in the writing challenges.
Obviously I can't speak for anyone here but me, and I don't know most people here all that well but at the same time, from conversations etc., I would be surprised if many hatrackers would think less of you for going to a COMMUNITY collage. Especially in these times. Even if they really do think little of JCs, which I for one don't.
This is a good place to get a solid foundation for writing, even though we aren't the only place to learn by far, and we shouldn't be the only place for that matter. But at the same time, just in case you might be feeling it, don't wait 'till you know everything before you start writing. Practice is part of the learning process whether you're were thinking that or not.
