I'm never very comfortable introducing myself on forums, but oh well - I guess I'll just step out of my comfort zone this time. I'm a writer who has a hard time actually finishing things. I'm sure that's not a unique problem, but it is MY problem (and I seem to have grown attached to it since I can't seem to shake it.)
I was an English major at UCLA, and I learned that I work best under assignment and deadline. It's been over a decade since I've taken a creative writing class, and I decided that a community like this might keep me somewhat accountable.
I tend to read SF and Fantasy, and my writing usually tends in that direction as well. Sadly, I write SEO for a website that sells pet medications. It's not exactly fun, but at least I can say that I'm paid to write.
I guess that's it. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to getting to know you all.

A slight hint for you if you can't finish things: try planning out more. If you know what the ending is, you have something to look for. And there's nothing that can compare to the feeling of actually finishing something. Also, try writing shorter stories.

When I was starting to write seriously, my problem was in turning off the infernal internal editor during the first draft. Don't edit until you type "The End" at the bottom. Works for me.

Yeah, you aren't the only one here with that problem, there could be a sub club here of people with that problem. I'm not one of them but as I implied there are a few here.
You have already received a couple of suggestions that can help and there are more. If you need deadlines we have them. In the form of writing challenges and sometimes last minute entries in a market that has a deadline. I just sent something that was due today and I decided to enter a story yesterday.
Whatever the case with you there are people here to encourage and help with improving your writing,
However as you look around the treehouse---such a wondrous place we may even have a book to describe it---do be careful. That unicorn can be mean when she wants to be.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I feel like I'm missing something when you talk about the "treehouse" and the "unicorn." What does that mean?
