My Singles Branch showed this film last night as our February Valentine's activity.

Anyone else seen it?

It's a cheesy, somewhat loopy adaptation of the biblical Book of Esther.

Now, I personally love the version in the Scriptures.

They...did so many weird things. Crazy things. A bizarre, imperfect clone of Captain Jack Sparrow is the King of Babylon.

John Rhys Davies (the biggest star in the film) is cast in the fairly major, pivotal role of Mordecai...but we barely see him.

The girl cast as Esther seems more like a grown-up Radio Disney teen than someone who lives in ancient Babylon.

Oh, and her parents give her a magical pendant that manifests an aura of multi-colored Stars of David at key moments of the film.

Yes. Really.

I don't remember that part from the Scriptures.

Endless scenes of wind-blown blossoms, veils, and perfume baths.

Haman is given an amulet that resembles a swastika (!) and (just in case we can't tell what the film makers are aiming at) reproduces this same symbol on banners during rallies....uh...

Strange movie.

Thanks, had I been drinking anything you'd owe me a new laptop.

Didn't they cast James "Gaius Baltar" Callis as Haman?

Mmmm, I'd heard it was bad, but I didn't know it was LAUGHABLY bad. Maybe I'll have to see it, after all. [Wink]

It's MST-worthy. [Big Grin]

I prefer this. And the same people made Jeremiah (otherwise known as Dr. McProphet).

That one looks good.
