It recently occurred to me that I don't know what many of the people I consider to be good friends look like. One of the mysteries of the internet. So I'm going to post a link to some photos of me. In deference to the weight and body image thread, plus my own personal credibility, there is also a picture of me when I was a skinny hottie (just so you don't think I was lying when I said I was once cute). That photo also includes a bit of Ron, but he requsted that I cut him mostly out.

I will remove the photos after a reasonable period of time. I thought it would be fun to see what some of you jokers look like, but I understand that many of you may prefer not to participate. No biggie either way.

Me.

I am the least photogenic person on the planet and am paranoid of cameras (we couldn't find any pictures to put in my senior portfolio when I graduated from high school.) I have a digital camera sitting right next to me on my desk, but I'm too lazy to use it right now.

I am 6'2" and 140 lbs.
I have very dark, wavy(read as "chronic silly hair syndrome") hair. It used to be long like in old pictures of the Apostles but I had to get it cut to come to BYU. My beard had to go as well, so now I look like a Mormon missionary- I had to, I'll be leaving to Taiwan or wherever they send me in January, and they always want a picture and of course you gotta look the part.

My skin has two shades: white and a sort of peeling red. Darn my Anglo-Scandinavian ancestry!

I wear glasses and clothes that I always make sure are at least somewhat out of style, because I hate the fashion industry and everything it represents.

I have an eternal five 'o clock shadow.

You can see me here.

JK, you can send me a photo and I'll post it. Actually, I'd be happy to host a Hatrack photo album. I'll create the album and publish it in such a way that you can't get to it from my personal homepage, that way only hatrackers (for the most part) will know about it.

If you're interested in being in the album, please send me a photo of yourself via email, or a link to a photo of yourself.

Ladyday, I'm not too shabby when it comes to fixing up photos. (Witness the "holy snitzor" photo link above). Messy-house backgrounds can be blurred out, colored over, or replaced.

Also, if someone doesn't have access to a digital camera or scanner, I can take care of that. Email me for details.

Jeniwren, your links didn't work. But I did get to your website through your profile. You look almost exactly as I pictured you, weird. (that's a compliment by the way! I pictured you as appearing very pretty and friendly, and you do!) Christian is precious.

Moose, that is one of the cutest pics I've ever seen!

May I just point out that it seems that hatrackers, in general, have exceptionally cute kids? (Yeah, mine included. )

KarlEd, I'd love to add to a photo album, but I'll wait and email you something new if you do set that up. Wes and I are going to have some studio pics done for our 10th anniversary photo, so I'll send you one of those since it will be more current.

To those of you who think I'm cute-- consider yourselves lucky you don't have to see me naked

Belle-- You are lovely as well, and what a nice house! I am also very envious of your lovely daughters. The Fella is also cute, but cute boys, I have. I went to buy Robert a new jacket tonight and they had the cutest little girl jacket with a matching hat. *Olivet wants a daughter, can you tell?*

Jeniwren, your little moppet also seems to be quite the perfect combo of looks, smarts and personality. From the pix of you, I can tell where he gets it

Moose-- The mooslet is adorable! He looks like the kind of baby my oldest would be petting (Robert loves to rub babies' heads, pat their cheeks and say "Awwww, cute!" He actually asked if we could go to the hospital and "pet the babies." Go figure)

Jadzia- That is a lovely site. Much better than I could do, I'm certain. Ignore Cedrios. Most of us do, anyway

Cedrios- Do please post a link to a picture of you, so I can do a screen capture and put you in frilly underthings in photoshop. Oh, such fun!

I've only received 2 photos emailed so far. If anyone else wants their photo in the album, please either send a copy via email, or send an email requesting to be added to the album, with a link to the photo you want me to use.

If this works well, maybe we can expand and each have a personal page with a short bio, or whatever.

Hi! I do have a digital camera, but no website. I'll send them to the Hatrack Album whenever somebody sets it up. There is a picture of me on Hatrack, though. John Keats and Slash the Berserker are in there, too. And the Flying Cow.

http://www.hatrack.com/misc/sightings/index.shtml

It's the Literary Boot Camp photo. I'm the small, disembodied head with brown hair and a big smile. Keats is in the front with a baseball cap. The Flying Cow has a black t-shirt and curly hair on his head. If we look tired, it's because we were.

I have it on good authority that JaneX looks much better in person.
Here is a picture from my nursing school open house last year that shows JaneX and me. JaneX is the cutie in the black capris, on the left back. I am the lady on the right back with the light blue top and really bad khaki pants (I am not as fat as they make me look!) and brown and grey hair – not a great picture of me, but it’s the best I could find online, for the moment.

Actually, the bf has a new camera, and recently got a very funny one of me while I was cooking dinner. But I'm holding a sort of cleaver thing, and look rather like Hannibal Lector's groupie.

WTF?!

Does that mean i have a sister too? >_<

why don't people tell me about these things?!?!

Oh, and this is very important, i need to know by like tomorrow.

Should i cut my hair short? or even it out so i can let it grow out?

I've done both before, i honestly don't care either way, which is why i'm taking the poll.

Please respond!

Glad to see my other cyber-son back I am a bit surprised by the way you actually resemble some folks very near me in the gene pool Who knew that Chinese diluted with Scotts Irish could so closely resemble Shawnee diluted with Scotts Irish?

My other cyber-son must take after his father.

Well I must say you are all lovely. I am so glad that right now I can honestly say I have not one pic on the web, or access to any of the good stuff that gets them there...scanner, digital camera.

Reluctantly...and in deference to the fact that I just shamelessly checked out all your pics knowing I didn't have one...I will try to remedy that. First I have to find a photo I like.

*looks up, a large discard pile growing next to her, waving onlookers away*

This one after getting married, and going through a LOT more than i would have liked but oh well. Andrei is the funny guy by me.

And finally this one when i was about 4-5 and well life has never given me much of a brake, hence the psycho (or weird, or amusing) look.
I cut my hair with pre-school scissors for some reason, that's why it is so short.

You don't have to be tall to model. Runway models, yes, usually. I did some sportswear modelling when I was younger, even though I had a very slight figure and was a shade under 5'8".

I'm also what people call "photogenic", which means I look like a sea hag in person LOL

But seriously, the pictures taken of me with my babies within minutes of their birth-- I look so good. It's amazing. I have no idea how that happened.

Tom, we love you, whatever you look like. There is at least one person on Hatrack I still wouldn't like if they were attractive, wealthy, etc. You will still have my respect, even if you were horribly disfigured or something. It matters not a whit.

I'm the guy in brown. Generally I don't wear brown. I wear blue, or grey, or black. The day this photo was taken (Christmas card at work) I was wearing brown.

Haunted, My Aim was screwed all day yesterday, and somehow came on by itself during the night (sorry Snowden )

I may fiddle with some stuff and post a few pics of my beloved later today, but I fear I shan't leave them up long. He's gained about 60 pounds since I've known him, most of it since he got his desk job (some of it came when he was travelling-- all that eating out-- but he carried a set of weights with him in his luggage if his hotel didn't have a fitness room, so it didn't get out of hand). He's unhappy with his weight, thugh it makes little difference to me except for health concerns, and the fact that I hate to see him unhappy with his appearance since he was such a cock of the walk before

I gotta get a new pic, all of mine are horrid. My kids are cute, but I need work!

Wes and I are going to have some pics made next month for our 10th anniversary, I'm hoping I'll have dropped some more pounds by then. Plus, we are planning on getting a new addition to the family when we get back from our anniversary trip.

I'm getting myself a puppy. I tell most folks it's for the kids, but you guys can know the truth. So, when I can I'll post some pics of the new arrival. We're planning on getting a yellow or chocolate labrador.

Thanks for starting this topic, Olivet - it's been fun!

Mind your manners, Keatsie. Neither of my husband's parents are blonde or redheaded. I think both of his grandfathers were, though.

I know you are in a committed relationship with a warrior, but if you like younger men.

Pat and the Fam look great. Pat, it's cool to see that your wife has a sense of humor- in her column that is, not just marrying you.

Martha: If I make it out to Boston, I'll take you out to dinner.

Ela: The picture with you and your hubby just makes me smile. You are both so happy it warms my heart.

Ok, ok, you guys goaded me enough. I finally had a face off with that loser boyfriend of Bonduca's.

At first, it was just a battle of machismo. As you can see, I had the upper hand.

Soon, word turned to deeds and the fight proper ensued.

It got pretty rough.

Not to mention savage.

Even when he
brought out the weapons, I wasn't particularly worried.

But when he decided to have his friends join in, I admit I was slightly concerned.

Thank you. I've spent a heck of a lot of time and money putting that system together.

In fact, this very evening I've been spending the last few hours re-equalizing the entire setup. Basically, the process is to measure with an RTA, adjust with the equalizer, and then measure with the RTA again. Keep repeating until it's "as good as it's going to get." What a hassle!

And this, too, asking, "Are you flexible?"

A friend, George, came to town a few weeks ago and we went to an anime convention together. The first pic is me in the cafeteria on my campus, soaking up sunlight. The second is actually at NDK (luckily my nametag is obscured), showing off for the cameraman.

She cancelled.. *L* She's in a production of Les Mis (which I took as a good omen, as I too have been in Les Mis - then again, I'd be willing to take the fact that she's human as a good omen at this point. Not that I'm desperate or anything. *G*) and has been totally wrung out with the show and work etc etc... so hopefully this wednesday night... at least I found out she likes guys in suits... *L* gives me an excuse to brush the dust off mine..

Posted by Perelandra (Member # 3632) on :

skywier,
Are you referring to my posting? I assume you are, but I dont quite understand the eye bit. Could you clarify for me?

If so, the kid is me. I think I originally put that up there to attract women. However, I dont believe it ever worked.

Posted by skywier (Member # 2610) on :

mmm .. the top left pic I think, is a photo of one eye (I forget which one, I presume its yours).. and a very striking eye at that! I dont believe I have ever seen a more striking eye!!

.. u could always try taking systematic and strategic pop shots, like the 'one eye'pic, of other body parts and see if that helps get the girlies in?
I suggest you select them tastefully and with great caution!

Yank -- keep it up! Your face'll freeze that way.

Patrick,

I think you should start a thread about this. Or give me permission to do so....

What punishment did the girl get?

Things like this make me mad and I could use some opinions about the right things to do in a situation like it. My parenting skills seem woefully inadequate for these kinds of situations. I probably would have told my son way to go. This could be why the school never calls me about problems at school anymore. I mean really, if he had told the teacher he would have bheen a tattletale and picked on even more, but if he stands up for himself then he is the bad kid. And do we really teach our children to ignore such behavior? You know, if you don't let them know it bothers you they will get bored and stop? Here are a couple of things I would have done if I were in charge of the school.

1. I think the girl should have been sitting alone at a lunch table for the rest of the week. (okay this one I probably wouldn't have done, but I do love the punitiveness of it. Is that even a word?)

2. Had the girl stay after lunch and help clean up the cafeteria. (I like the community service part of this and if your school is anything like mine was, she would have missed recess to boot.)

3. Have ever child at the lunch table participate in a bully/teasing prevention class. Have the teacher ask why everyone at the table did nothing to stop it. If they all ignore the problem....arg! Why are people such idiots? And why do they feel the need to pick on others all the time? And why does no one do anything to stop this? They wonder how someone can get murdered in broad daylight and have a crowd of witnesses that saw nothing.

This thread is incredibly long. I guess it just goes to show that humans are social animals interested a lot more in what people look like than in religion or politics or Harry Potter. But then again, a group of people that spends alot of its time online is probably starved for that kind of outlet.

And since the odds of anyone actually reading this is slim to none, I'm gonna put other stuff here as well. Kind of like shouting it out into a wide nothing. Sounding my barbaric yawp from the rooftops of the world (thanks Robin Williams).

Why do we have this fascination with bodily excretions? Like whenever I blow my nose, I always have to look at the Kleenex to find out what came out. I think it stems from this primal urge to always be looking for food. I think that it’s to answer one of those basic questions that we’re always subconsciously asking ourselves. Like, we’ll look at something and ask, “Can I eat this?” and, “Could this kill me?” and, “Can I procreate with this?” A woman would fall under all three of these questions. A booger falls under just the first question. Some of you may remember you used to eat boogers; I know I did. It’s part of that curiosity with things that young children have. Wow, look what came outta my nose, wonder what it tastes like. Oh, it’s edible, neat, wonder what else I can eat. Hmm, how ‘bout some dirt. Let’s see, can’t just eat dirt by itself, seems like more of a seasoning, like salt or pepper. Well, I’ve got some graham crackers right now, yep, that sounds good, dirt and graham cracker. Hmm, it’s edible too. What a wonderful world. That’s why you’re happy when you’re a little kid, subconsciously you think you can eat the whole world. And you don’t know about many things that can kill you either. Nor do you worry about procreating. Later in life you find out you can only eat a small percentage of things in the world and you find out about a lot of things that can kill you and on top of all that you waste all of your time trying to get laid. No wonder we like to drink. Drinking is actually funny, it’s something we can eat, but it can kill us, but it’ll help us get laid. And that brings up another bodily excretion, vomit. I think that’s what this little essay is. Intellectual puke. I drink in some life until I get drunk off it and then it’s all gotta come up.

It was hot and humid that day,
Permitting a thin gloss of sweat on her cleavage.
Thank you for low-cut tops, O Lord.
And our daily bread, and the crumbs
Which fall from her lips, settling
Absurdly on her breasts.

I wanna talk about the olden days. You never hear that word with anything else but days. Days and times, in olden times. But nothing else. There’s no olden minutes. Gee, Jack, I hope we can put this misunderstanding behind us. -- What! It just happened a few minutes ago! -- Those were the olden minutes, Jack. That was way back in the olden seconds. There’s no olden people walking around. A piece of stinky, olden cheese. Stinky molding cheese, sure. This milk has gone bad! --No, it’s not bad, it’s olden milk. In the olden days men were men. It’s like back then in the olden days you were a boy and then one day you shot a bear and screwed a broad and you were a man. Nowadays, I think there’s three stages. There’s boy, and then before man there’s this guy period. What’s up with that? It’s because there’re no bears around anymore. We can’t go out and shoot a squirrel and be like, “Yes, I am now a man!” Nope, not like back in the days of yore. That’s another word that doesn’t have any current meaning.

Pee is yellow, beer is yellow, but when you drink a lot of beer, the pee becomes clear. What the f@ck [edited for your reading pleasure] is going on there!

Don’t you love finding money in your pockets? Oh man that’s the best.

I was opening this bottle of water and I notice on the cap an expiration date: Oct 2003. Apparently water can go bad! Holy shit! I feel terrible for the people who own beach-front property. Sure the salt preserves the water a little longer, but at some point, it’s gonna start curdling and the stench will be awful. Of course, real estate agents will say, “It hasn’t gone bad, it’s olden water!”

Ok. And if you've read this far, I'll probably have more material in a few weeks.

You aren't kidding. I think I used up all of the allotted luck for my lifetime in winning my wife's hand and in my beautiful daughter. I reckon the rest of the young'uns will have to be as ugly as roadkill to make for a balanced family

Posted by bonduca (Member # 2011) on :

Oh, dear! Perhaps you could buy some luck from the fates by getting a really bad haircut or hideous sport jacket - then you might salvage one more cute child from it.

Olivet <-- has daughter envy, as we only have sons.

Bonduca- That might work except for the fact that my innate bad looks alread balance out a portion of the good looks of the rest of the family. As it is my wife has thrown away all of my really ugly clothes from before we got married so she wouldn't be embarassed to be seen in public with me.

Posted by Jacare Sorridente (Member # 1906) on :

Jeff- I have about as much fashion sense as my namesake crocodile. I have no idea if it is a notch-collar dinner jacket, or even what said garment looks like. To my mind a tux is a tux and that's it. I am an incorrigible T-shirt and jeans kind of guy. Fortunately my work is laid back enough that that is acceptable. I only get into trouble when going to weddings etc.

Posted by Sunny (Member # 2722) on :

Jaccare you look like a hunk in those wedding photos. You are in no way innately reprehensible to look at, and methinks thou art guilty of fishing for compliments!! You are a handsome family, and with that combination of good looks the likelihood of further good looking additions is very high!

(although I'm sure there are far more people saying "Who the heck is this girl?" cuz I haven't been around much lately) here are some of me at school, all taken over the past year.

I am the short girl with long hair, which is red in anything after October 27, but brown before that...these are approximately most recent to least recent

These first few are from this Halloween, at a party I hosted...
Me and my costumed friends
The Justice Club (becuse it's just us)!
Me and Parul
Missy and me

These are from an Astros game this September...for some reason, the girl whose pictures these are confused me with my roommate when naming them, but I'll forgive her
Rachel and me
Sam and me

From April...
Brooke and me at Beer Bike

Going to the midnight showing of Rocky Horror...the first one made it into the yearbook...
me, Dave, Chase, and Parul
This pic has been described as "sultry."
me and Sam and Brooke

Some random pictures from last winter
Jeremy, me, and Carl in a coffee shop
Sam and I play with coconuts in a Chinese market

[edit: Brooke changed the links on her site, so the ones I had before didn't work.]

Posted by Mike (Member # 55) on :

OK, let's play the Name Game*. Who's your friend?

-----
* The Name Game is a common phenomenon best illustrated by example:
Person 1: I go to [someuniversity].
Person 2: Really? I know someone who goes there!
Person 1: Hmm, I wonder if I know them...
Person 2: [His/Her] name is [somepersonsname].
Person 1: Sounds familiar, but I don't think I know [him/her]. OR Nope, can't say I've heard of [him/her].

Rarely does anything come out of this exchange, but for some reason everyone does it anyway (including me ).

Posted by FlyingCow (Member # 2150) on :

I played a variation of that when I was studying in Ireland. I was in a very, very small pub in Sligo, and I said I was from the US... a guy said, "Really? Bob over there's from America... lemme get him"

Turns out Bob was visiting from California, and the man wanted to know if he and I knew each other... being as how I'm from Jersey, that'd be no.

Oh, and everywhere I went in Greece that I mentioned I was from New Jersey, a local would say "I have a cousin who owns a diner in New Jersey! Do you know him?" Must have happened a minimum of 5 times over the course of two weeks.

Yes, the world is small. No, the world is not the size of a basketball.

Cow

Posted by ludosti (Member # 1772) on :

Cow - it is quite funny how sometimes the world seems as small as a basketball, while other times, it doesn't. I remember getting a similar thing while in Bulgaria. Someone would ask me where I was from and when I told them I was from Phoenix, AZ they'd say something to the effect of "my cousin's next door neighbor Ivan lives in Phoenix, do you know him?" Since there are more than 3 million people that live in and around Phoenix and I know only a minute fraction of those people, the answer was always, "I don't think so." Then again, while living there, I met another American girl who was very good friends with one of my cousins.

Moose: Mooselet is a terribly cute kid. his ears are awesome, i'm sure he'll be teasted mercilessly by other kids, but those are some damn fine auditory receptors. a very leet looking kid.

Punch -- No pictures in the album...?

Khav -- Interesting, but it's no Yatta....

Pod -- They'll look smaller once he has some hair. However, no hair and big ears is fitting for his (our) last name, which is Russian for "elephant."

Kepper - that was a joke at my own expense based on my horrific actions to :Locke early in his career (his intro thread, in fact) for which I hope he has since forgiven me.

I accused him of lying about his age, saying he had to be much older than what he claimed. His picture obviously shows he is not older than his claim but I still had to throw a little joke in there for his amusement.

Unless...that picture ISN'T of him... ::glares suspiciously at :Locke::

Leslie - I've always thought he looks like Kevin Spacey. But, you know, David Duchovny works.

Jeni - We were at Universal Studios in December and it was POURING. Those are the ponchos we snagged to keep semi-dry, and that's Beethoven we're being photographed with.

Love the ironic smirk and the "I can really hurt you if I want to" look in the eyes.

BTW, EW.COM rated the Summer movie hunks and gave Vin Diesel #2 just behind Colin Farrell and just ahead of Hayden Christensen.

I was pleased that Christian Bale made, like, number 7. I agreed with the Colin Farrell assessment: "The biggest thing to come out of Ireland since beer."

Posted by pH (Member # 1350) on :

Thankies!

Mrowrl! Vin Diesel!

And I definitely like him better than Hayden...the whole "I'm a scary stalker" thing in Ep2 kind of spoiled him for me...though he did look good in Life As a House.

Posted by Olivet (Member # 1104) on :

Yeah, the fake tan in Ep II really made him look too much like my cousin for me to think of him as having any sort of appeal as a "romantic lead." I like 'em pale, pretty and old enough to shave.

Well mine is here. It's really bad quality because the only way for me to get a picture onto my computer is to film it, then load it onto a video editor, then print the screen, then save it as a jpeg. Plus the color is gone because there wasn't enough light. But it's there.

I don't have a Yahoo account farther than a gecities weeb site. If that means that I do have an account, I'm not aware of it.

Did you copy and past the link into your browser or just click on it? If you did the latter, the former. IF you did do the former, try this: http://www.geocities.com/Hobbes7714/Hobbes_and_me (without the .jpg). I'm not sure why it isn't working, so I'll attempt to come up with a solution.

Hobbes it is not working because (if my understanding is correct) Geocities checks the referrer that the browser sends when requesting an image, if that referrer does not point to a geocities page it does not display the image. They do this to keep people from using their sites as storage for images that are used on another site, among other reasons. There is no way around it if you are just linking directly to the image, although you could create a page that contained nothing but a HTML tag for the image. And link to that instead, the appearance for those trying to see your image would be just about the same.

Didn't we create a successor to Foobonic after it died? I'm sure we did, but I can't find the thread about it.

If we did, it was announced during one of my absences. Anyone recall that thread, or at least recall who made it?

And even if there is one, it was fun to link a single picture here of us, just like this!
