For the last few days, about 2/3 of the time when I use my bookmark to come back to Hatrack, instead of taking me to the "active forums" page where it's supposed to (which happens about 1/3 of the time), I end up on the "sit tight, taking you to..." page and then am redirected to my last post.

This would be really irritating if I didn't post so often. As it is, it's just kinda puzzling.

Anyone else?

I think the bookmarks changed. You might want to try and update yours

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I already did that, thank you.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I had to completely redo mine at the forum changeover, it sucked.

What can you do? [Big Grin]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I wasn't having this happen until just yesterday or the day before. I'm just kind of confuzzled about what's going on.

Well, KQ, I just finisjed reading "Homebody." I'd say, your computer is getting too strong. Tear it apart!! Quick!!

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

Interesting...
What OS you on? Browser?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Windows XP (ick, came installed), SBC Yahoo (IE spinoff). And I've not had problems with my HR bookmarks before (well, except the change, of course), and I don't have problems with other bookmarks.

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

Have you tried it in Internet Explorer to see if the same happens there?
(trying to narrow it down)

Posted by kaioshin00 (Member # 3740) on :

Whats the URL your bookmark is directed to?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

The URL is http://www.hatrack.com/cgi-bin/ubbmain/ultimatebb.cgi?category=1 .

I don't use IE. I suppose I could try it. But not right now. *grumps* As I said, it's about 2/3 of the time (now maybe approaching more like 3/4), with no apparent rhyme or reason to the times it works.

you can bookmark things? o_O

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Mine does it, too, kq. If I get the "other" page, I just refresh. Or you could update your bookmark to http://www.hatrack.com/ubb/main/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum&f=CAT%3A1&submit=Go and it ought to work. I think.

It might be just loading the old page from the cache...

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

The cache does sound like a good culprit. Especially since it does it inconsistently.
Hey Pop, what browser are you using?
There might be a setting we could tweak.

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

I'm too lazy to use anything but IE -- and I dislike tabbed browser windows, so don't try to sell me on it please. There's a setting to look for new pages every time you visit, but I don't want that, either. If anyone figures out a very easy fix, I'll try it. Maybe.

Here I was thinking you were using a strange browser too. I’m with ya on the IE thing. Works great.
I wonder if this link has the problem too:
http://www.hatrack.com/cgi-bin/ubbmain/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=2
I can’t get it to happen so it’s hard to find a fix.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I've been trying since rivka pointed out Sat. night that I hadn't done it in a while to empty the cache.

My computer crashes every time I try. [Cry]

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

Really? Now we're getting somewhere. That's strange. How much memory do you have?

Posted by aspectre (Member # 2222) on :

Yep, clean up the cache memory

Settings -> Control Panel -> (double click on) Internet Options

in Temporary Internet Files: Delete Cookies and Delete Files
in History: Clear History

Sorry, I hadn't seen your last response before posting.

256 mb memory.

Posted by Jay (Member # 5786) on :

That could be a huge help. Memory is cheap and if you get that up to 512 you’ll notice so much improvement in everything. Might be a part of this problem where the memory gets confused since it’s filled up. It is fairly easy to install too and a number of places carry extra memory now too.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

(We just gave our extra memory from our last computer to Morbo. I don't know if our new computer even has room for extra memory.)

I think we may need to update our browser. Unfortunately, the website to do that is stupid, and their tech support is stupider. [Grumble]

*chuckle*

I used to do SBC DSL CSI (Customer Self Install) tech support

The SBC Yahoo! browser sucks. If we could do it without being too blatant, we'd get customers to stop using it.

I just had this error happen! Never did before.

IE, on a computer at school. Not sure how the cache is set.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

fugu, the people I've been talking to are all from India. I don't think they care either way. [Wall Bash]

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Well, I just managed to delete the files and cookies. We'll see if it makes any difference. (For some obscure reason, this time it didn't crash. [Dont Know] )

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Didn't fix it.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

It's now every time.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Have you tried substituting the links Pop and Jay gave?

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

Yup.

It doesn't do it the first time I come back after signing out of my (yahoo) account, but otherwise, it happens every time now.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Don't ever sign out? Seriously. If it bugs you that much, you should never sign out.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

But my husband uses the same computer. And it's when I don't sign out that I have the problem; it works normally the first time after I sign in.

Posted by SteveRogers (Member # 7130) on :

Oh.....well my advice was entirely useless. Maybe you should just forget the bookmark and get here the old-fashioned way. Type in the address to the main page and follow the links to get here.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

But that takes so long! I'd rather refresh or whatever. I mean, I'm only ever gone a few minutes at most before I come back; it would be really inconvenient to not use a bookmark.

Why is the world obessed with convienence? Why must we make things easier for ourselves? I've always loved a challenge.

That's weird, I wonder why you computer crashes just for clearing the cache? Maybe you have a bug or virus? Try running ad-aware or similar cleaning programs.

Is Hatrack your hompage? Many spyware and virus programs reset your homepage.

The cache still seems like a good bet.
Go to Internet options, either through the control panel or Tools menu in IE.
Click general if it doesn't come up automatically.
Click Settings by Temp. Internet files. There is a multiple choice for "Check for newer vesions of stored page."
What is your browser set to? Maybe changing this setting will fix it.
