Have you ever noticed how sometimes it's great to come back home? Sure I'm stuck in the land of no public transportaion (well sure there is some but let's be honest) without a car but overall I'm having a great time, and I've only been in town for 17 hours.

I'm here for a friend's wedding next weekend and to just sorta hang out. And already I've discovered that clothes here fit me [Eek!] And that boys will come up to me and start conversations. Why can't things like that happen on the east coast. Oh and the weather is warm with a breeze!

Now I'm sure I'll be perfectly happy to head home once I start having to just hang out at the house. But, for now woo Omaha!

Hey Sarah!

Welcome home [Smile] .

We're waving from across the river.

[Wave]

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Or we would be if we were there already instead of 200 miles away packing stupid boxes because the stupid movers are coming at 10 o'clock in the stupid morning. [Mad]

Ooops. I mean, "Hi! [Wave] Welcome home."

Let us know if you want to get together (if you have time, of course). Perhaps dinner this week with Bob and Dana....?

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

We arrive tomorrow night, moving truck arrives tuesday morning. So we could do dinner Wednesday or later.

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

Wednesday I have class, but Thursday is good. Friday I wanted to pop into the Summer Arts Festival downtown. Feel free to join us. Saturday I think we're going to Worlds of Fun, assuming it's not too hot.

Going to the College World Series?

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

Okay, you say Omaha, I think "Hi/low." Now, you're talking about the World Series, to boot. How can everyone not be thinking about poker?

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

My dad went today. Xavier and I aren't big baseball fans. The biggest tour attraction we have all year, and I've never been to it.

I'm thinking

. . .somewhere in Middle America. Get right to the heart of the matter/It's the heart that matters most.

Yeah, I'm going back to Utahr in a month. I'm looking forward to it. I'll get to play basketball with people who understand me. (That has to do with my meagre skill set, and the complementary ones of most of my Utah friends).

Actually, it's probably mostly my desire to flee humidity. Blech.

I was just telling Monica(Val's cousin) that she should bring you along some time. *laugh* I think she thinks it's weird that I know you. Let's see so Sat. is my friends' wedding. Other than that I only have plans on Tuesday thus far.
Thurs. would probably work well for me b/c everyone I know has to work the next day so no fun plans like dancing all night long can be made.

Is shakespeare on the green this weekend?

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

Yes it is! Pericles and Othello are playing this year. A few years ago I saw Macbeth. It was almost magical when the whole audience chanted along with the witches:

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

The atmosphere is amazing. Not to mention free! It is outside and a bring-your-own-blanket/chair event.

Pericles is opening that night. Now I'm pretty familiar with Shakespeare, but I'll admit, I don't know a lot about that one.

Any ideas for restaurants? What is everyone's price range?

Edit: Yes, Sarah, she does think it strange we know each other but have never met.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Oooo! We just saw Pericles a few months ago. (For the first time.) It would be fun to see another production.

Edit: Ooops. That was me (dkw).

Posted by sarahdipity (Member # 3254) on :

That's okay I think Monica has gotten used to me being strange. [Smile]

So let me know what you guys want to do. My price range is sorta cheaper is better but that I don't like fast food and such. If people wanted we could picnic at Shakespeare on the green, or we could go do mexican mmmm food that is hard to find in new england

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Well...

I'm not really into mexican (grew up in upstate NY, where all we had was Taco Bell). I would be willing to tag along if its what the group decides though.

Do you guys like Chinese? Me and Nicole love a restaurant here which is a buffet of really good chinese food, with a great mongolian grill included with the meal. The bad part is that its in west omaha. Its about 10$ a person.

Other than that, I'm having trouble thinking of anything which would be non-fast food, but still both cheap and good. There's some great food here, but man is some of it expensive.

However, Niki has been here longer, and might be able to think of more places...

Posted by sarahdipity (Member # 3254) on :

We just ate at the Chinese Buffett on Father's day. *laugh* Really that exact one.
Okay not into mexican. Hrm. All the places I'm thinking of are actually too close to the world series/downtown to be practical this week. Bah!

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

Ok. I went through the phone book and came up with Famous Dave's. It has a great atmosphere and great cornbread.

Sound good? Maybe we should also pick a meet time? Say...7:00?

But, Sarah, let me know if you change your mind on China Buffet. [Smile]

Cal, I have met Sarah, and she is a bit weird ...

. . .and all of that weirdness is in a very cool way!

She is really cool, very much like she is online, and I liked meeting up with her, as did my wife.

Then again, you have never met me or JenniK either, so maybe that doesn't help you much... [Wink]

Posted by dkw (Member # 3264) on :

Famous Dave's sounds good. Which one and how do we get there?

Or you could all come to Dana and Bob's Front Porch Cafe. We're dining alfresco until we excavate though the boxes in the dining room.

Here are the three Omaha locations...

FAMOUS DAVES
1101 HARNEY ST, OMAHA, NE 68102
Phone: (402) 333-8001

FAMOUS DAVES
7051 AMES AVE, OMAHA, NE 68104
Phone: (402) 333-6391

FAMOUS DAVES
2015 PRATT AVENUE, BELLEVUE, NE 68123
Phone: (402) 934-2300

FAMOUS DAVES
PAPILLION, NE 68046
Phone: (402) 699-5555

The first one is the downtown one. Are we avoiding that area? Its pretty close to where you are Dana, but I've never been here for a college world series, so I don't know what its like downtown. We'll have to decide between the other ones if not...

(Unless of course you guys are in the mood for chinese tomorrow... [Monkeys]

That's four.

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Haha, yeah, I started the message from a different source of locations than the one I copied and pasted from.

Yes, it appears there are 4, or technically only 2 in Omaha city limits, but Papillion and Bellvue are pretty close.

[Razz]

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

We will go wherever. Let's see...there's 5 people total. We could each go to a different Famous Dave's and Xav could go to the Chinese place. We'll meet later to compare notes.

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Actually, let's go to the place with the best air conditioning.

I want to be treated for frostbite afterwards. That's the level of A/C we're going for.

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Niki suggests the Bellevue Famous Daves. Sound good? I'm sure any of you can mapquest as well as I, if that is the one we are going for [Smile] .

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Mapquest is a verb now?

Posted by advice for robots (Member # 2544) on :

You don't mapquest?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Actually, I more often use YahooMaps.

That is, I prefer to Yahoo.

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Mapquesting become a verb around the same time googling did [Smile] .

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

Bellevue one looks good to us. We can just hop on 80 to 75, then South...

Looks good.

I'll be the one wearing, um...whatever I can dig out of a box.

It might not even be a box of my clothing.

I may be wearing books.

Or shaving cream. I know where that stuff is.

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

Do we have a confirmation from Sarah as well?

Famous Dave's in Bellevue at 7:00.

Bob, I emailed you a contact phone number. Oh, and you might want to update your profile. I do believe you have a new state of residence.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Hatrackers en route to Bellevue.

*bites tongue*

Posted by sarahdipity (Member # 3254) on :

Spiffy I live in Bellevue and don't have a car tomorrow. *laugh* Scowl why couldn't it be in walking distance of me that would make it so easy.

Does anyone want to give me a ride?

Posted by Bob_Scopatz (Member # 1227) on :

sarahdipity...we can give you a ride, if you don't mind the fact that we may get lost and I found myself driving the wrong way in the changable center lane in Omaha the other day.

If that offer sounds good, just e-mail me at:
Bscopatz AT data-nexus DOT com

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

Of course we would be more than happy to give you a lift, perhaps even preventing B&D from getting lost.

Posted by sarahdipity (Member # 3254) on :

hrm. Maybe I'd better save Bob and dkw from the pain of having to figure out how to get around. Val can you email me at sosentos at cs dot umass dot edu

Posted by sarahdipity (Member # 3254) on :

dkw, So the guys name was Steve Johnson. Is it the same one?

I finally have some pictures from this event!!

You're going to have to copy and paste to view because I just cannot get the links to work.

http://www.freewebs.com/valentine014/Hatrack/BobNDanaOmaha-large.jpg
This first one is of our very own Bob and Dana!

http://www.freewebs.com/valentine014/Hatrack/Sarah&PhilOmaha-large.jpg
This second one is Phil (Xavier) and Sarah (saradipity).

I was there, but heh, someone how that photo got deleted....

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Looks like fun... [Smile]

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

*jealous* Wishes I was in Omaha right now.....

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

(why do your links just take me back to Hatrack instead of to freewebs?) strange.

Posted by Valentine014 (Member # 5981) on :

Yeah, like I said, the links don't work, you need to cut and paste. I don't know why it won't.

Posted by sarahdipity (Member # 3254) on :

Ack awful picture of me! *hides*

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Yeah, the flash was a lot kinder to me than you in that one.

One of the pics we got off the camera (lost the cable to hook up to computer, so we got a lot of old pics off) is me, Kat, and BannaOJ on me and Niki's bed and BobAndDanaCon is the worst picture of me ever taken. I'm sort of doing a crazy half-blink thing which makes me look like I was just hit on the head by an anvil or something. Yuck. [Smile]

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

[Smile] yeah. That's why This is still my favorite...
