See end is near thread. I will admit though that the creator of that one should have been more specific.

Anyone not happy with 10 seasons, will never be happy.

Right, the end is near thread. Though there is really no way to know what it was about from its title.

As to the why question?

Lets see. Goauld are defeated. Replicators are defeated. Jafa are free. Anchor star Richard Dean Anderson has quit. 10 seasons is enough of a run I think. Ratings were down significantly. Perhaps due to BSG not showing on same evenings anymore.

I'm not happy with 10 seasons, but I WILL be happy if it ends after another season, or a half season even. If they cut out the fluff episodes and deal only with the Ori plot straight through, I'd be okay with it ending soon, especially if it caps off with a movie.

It isn't that I never want it to end, I just want it to end right, with all my questions answered.

For the most part, all you can hope for is that it ends before it jumps the shark.

What questions are left besides defeating the Ori?

Posted by GeronL (Member # 9674) on :

defeat the Ori??

shouldn't we embrace them? shouldn't we ask why they are doing these bad things? It is probably our fault they attacked us. Can't we just try diplomacy?

kidding... obviously

Hahaha GeronL. Very Ironical

Who are the ori? I lost interest when O'Neil left.

I'm guessing yet another alien race.

Me too. And, to be honest, I don't even know HOW he left. Did he magically disappear one episode, only to be replaced by someone else? did he ascend? Did he get careless and get vaporized by the gate opening?

Every time I saw him I can't help but think "what the hell is this? Macguyver doesn't need a P-90!"

Posted by sarcasticmuppet (Member # 5035) on :

He just retired, didn't he? Then that guy from B5 became leader of SG-1, but SG-1 was gutted. That's when I stopped watching. The show might have gotten silly, but the Jack-Daniel dynamic made me watch it. When that was gone, I had nothing.

Posted by The Pixiest (Member # 1863) on :

which B5 guy is running SG1?

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

It's actually Ben Bowden or something like that from Farscape, not B5.

Also, interesting tidbit: here.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

O'Neill (two "l"s, remember) did not retire. He is a two-star general . . . somewhere else.

And I like Ben Browder!

Posted by Shepherd (Member # 7380) on :

The main man and main woman from farscape are in Sg-1. SO are teal'c carter and jackson. Beau Bridges is the new hammond. MacGuiyver went to beocome the head of "homeworld defense".

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

Not to mention Michael Shanks' real life wife is the new doctor.

And there are a ton of questions I still want answered. Quite frankly, what makes the most sense, if the Ori threat is eliminated, is for Daniel to go to Atlantis.

But I want to know about the Furlings, and whatever happened to the Nox? And all that stuff. There's a bunch of open ended Milky Way stuff I'd like to see tied up nicely before it all ends. Then send Daniel to Atlantis, where he's wanted to go, and only isn't going because of the Ori, then it's all good.

Edit to add: I'm pretty sure Hammond is still in charge of Homeworld Security.

no its O'Neill now, hes a Two star general. Theres 2-3 movies in the works me thinks. and nooooo SG-1 better not end with only 10 season *cries*

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

I'm fairly sure that isn't canon.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

That he is a two-star general is canon. Precisely what his job is, I think was not made clear.

[edit:] I take that back. Correction.

Yeah, rivka, it's mentioned in last week's episode that you haven't seen yet. [Smile]

(BTW, anyone else think that 200 wasn't as good as their 100th episode? Also, didn't we have this thread already?)

Well, I got a detailed verbal summary of the episode. But my source was apparently incorrect on some details. [Razz]

My sympathy goes out to Morena Baccarin, but I will not miss this show. She can use this opportunity to guest star on Veronica Mars or Supernatural (wink to the Shepherd) instead.

This would make me a happy person.

However, I think that if I were Michael Shanks I would be getting pretty bored of Stargate by now and I don't blame any of them for throwing in the towel.

I thought "200" was friggin brilliant.

And a pox on Michael Shanks if he leaves but is offered Atlantis. Couldn't they just hole him up in a room somewhere and he makes occasional guest appearances?

Posted by B34N (Member # 9597) on :

yeah, i thought 200 was very good, I liked the puppets! Shanks would make a great addition to Atlantis.

Posted by ketchupqueen (Member # 6877) on :

I didn't think 200 was the best ever, but it didn't suck.

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

Well... there aren't that many high-profile linguists or philologists or non-hard-science researchers on Atlantis... yet... [Wink]

I thought "200" had its moments of sheer delight, but like anything that jumped the shark, it had parts that weren't so great.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

"200" is in a shark bubble. It isn't meant to be a serious episode in any sense. It's a big joke, it's fun time for the writers AND the actors. It's a mishmash of inside jokes and hyjinks. Heck, they even mention jumping the shark in the episode as one of the inside jokes.

If people aren't satisfied with ten years from him, I recommend that he leave ASAP and never turn back, because crazy fans are going to demand the same thing from him 'till the day he dies.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

That's the plan [Smile]

And ahem, NINE years.

Posted by Teshi (Member # 5024) on :

Nine and a bit.

Yeah, but it just... wasn't as funny as it should have been. I give it (gave it) a 7 out of 10. Good, not great.

My thoughts exactly. I've got nothing against SG1. It's an okay series, but more deserving series like Farscape and Firefly got 4 seasons and less than 1 season respectively. So forgive me if I don't offer my condolences to grieving SG1 fans.

It's like when a relative dies in his sleep at age 105 after a life of no regrets. You may miss him, but I wouldn't call it a tragedy.

Posted by Lyrhawn (Member # 7039) on :

What makes Firefly MORE deserving?

I've never seen Farscape. I've seen all of, and love Firefly to death. But I don't get the criteria people somtimes use to judge what shows should die in favor of others.

If I could have chosen to end SG1 after 8 seasons, in order to get Firefly back on the air I'd say kill SG1 quick and easy and get FF back on the air, but I wouldn't automatically call it more deserving.

Damn you Companion! Miss Baccarin shall not befoul herself wiht supernatural!

Posted by Companion_in_Training (Member # 9686) on :

I'll have you know, Shepherd, that Miss Baccarin has already be seen making out with Jensen Ackles from Supernatural on their pilot for Still Life. So, in a way, she's already been contaminated by the Supernatural guys. Take that.

It has better characters, better writing, more interesting scenarios, and was absolutely loaded with potential. In my opinion, Firefly was just plain better in every way that counts. But it got 11 episodes aired while SG1 got 10 seasons.

14 episodes. This means that you get to watch 3 new-to-you episodes of Firefly!

Totally different kind of show. I loved it for what it was. I loved Firefly for what it was.

Firefly was dark with bits of comedy. SG1 was comedic with bits of darkness. Besides, there's tons of real crap out there that need killing before you start attacking a good show.

No, I've seen them all, but I thought that only 11 actually aired on Fox before it got canned. The Space network here in Canada aired them all, and in the correct order. [Smile]

I've never watched the Stargate TV show but I know a lot of you were hoping for this and I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere yet.
