I've just begun to read the Crystal City. I'd like to tell you, all the OSC fans, that in France too we read these fantastic books. Fantasy is not very famous in our country but since Harry Potter and The Lords of the rings in theaters, it's better. I didn't know OSC but one day, in the library where I use to go, I was looking for a Tom Clancy book. When I saw that there wasn't anything, I looked next to Clancy and I saw Card. What a lucky thing. I looked at the covers and I said to myself "Why not ?". Now, The Crystal City is my tenth OSC book !
I didn't read a book like the Seventh Son (I don't know an English word to explain !).

I thank you to read me and I can say that I will write on this forum as I'll can. It helps me to learn English. I hope that it doesn't bories you !
See you later Tony 50

PS : Please don't look after my errors, or tell me what's wrong. Thanks

Bienvenu Tony,

Scott and I love his french publisher -- I'm so glad you were able to find his books there. And I think the translator of the Alvin Maker books did a particularly excellent job.

We're glad to have you here.

The translation is very good. When I saw the language level (of course because it's a long time ago), I didn't try to read the Crystal City in english like the last Harry Potter ! There isn't the same pression for OSC I think, because I didnt wait to the french translation of The order of the phoenix : we had to wait six or seven month ! Just three or four with the last Alvin Maker

Suddenly I find myself wondering, quite irrelevantly I admit, how the whole "pas de shooting of gooses" scene played out in the French version. It's enough to make me wish I could read French. Well, that and Voltaire.

This makes me wonder at the whole French perspective of all the Nepoleon, De Balzac and Audibon arcs. But if you do not want to discuss it I understand.

Welcome to someone in France. That's where my roots come from back in 1634 - Belanger and Paradis. Yes, we do speak French all over the place up here in northern Maine, USA. BUT, we were not to speak it in school - until the law was repealed in 1968 (a year after I graduated from High School). That's why I'm not responding in French. I can't really write it - but can read it well enough to get by.

Yes, Orson Scott Card is a great writer ! I wish he'd write more 7th son books.

Hey, have fun ! That's all we're here for.

From a 7Th on.

Welcome here ! I'm French too and am here since a long time. I'm not here as often as I would like to, but this community is the best you can find on the Internet, IMHO. I hope you'll enjoy yourself, and you'll participate too to the other forum : Books, films and American culture . We talk pretty much about anything, it's quicker than here but so interesting !
EDIT : oh, and if you'd like to, tell us more about yourself ! How old are you? What are you doing for a living ? What do you love, what do you hate ?

I'm 15, I live in Coutances, next to Brettania, I'm fond of video games, reading, listenning to music, and I love squash. I'm a football (soccer in North America) supporter (Let's go Roazhon !, ben oui c'est pour ça que je parle plus avec des lillois, lol). I would like to present you two web sites :
www.blacknebraska.fr.st (my brother is the one who plays guitar) and www.roazhon1901.com

Salut Tony!

Ça va?
I am French class 1 right now, and am learning lots of new words. It's a lot of fun, especially because I get to drive my family crazy talking French all the time. However, I don't think I could do an entire post in French quite yet. Maybe soon.

Welcome to Hatrack!

Au revoir!

Maybe Tony50 is just lurking for a while. I do it all the time. So Tony, if you're there, let us know. I'm curious what French word you would use to explain how much you liked Seventh Son.

By the way, Anna, I'm going to Angers this summer for a month at l'Universite Catholique de l'Ouest. Ou habitez-vous?

Hello !
I'm also a french fan of OSC ! I just want to say that the french translator, Patrick Couton, is a very good one. He translates Terry Pratchett's books too and make it very well ! If you don't know him, you can read his books in french in L'Atalante or in Pocket. So, have a lot of fun !

Hello, compatriots !

I'm happy to see all we are here !

It's fun about the translator, because i'm parallely reading The Shadow's books and The first Books of Terry Pratchett (both in french). I though both are really well translate with lot of researched words.
