My daughter brought home from preschool a book of recipes for Thanksgiving that were simply too good not to share. The teacher asked each child how to make a particular dish, here are the answers, exactly as the child responded (BTW, our little girl had the honor of coming up with the recipe for the turkey):

Turkey: Take a turkey and put it in a pot
Put boiling water with it
With a fork mash it up
When it is done take it out of the pan and put it on a big plate on the table
Cut it and eat

Mashed Potatoes: Wash potatoes in the sink
Cook whole potatoes in a hot oven, faster and faster and faster
Eat it with your teeth

Gravy: Take some oranges, watermelon, strawberiies, and orange juice
Cook them in a bowl for 30 minutes
Pass them out and pour over the potatoes

Stuffing: Take some green beans, some macaroni and some steak
Cook it in the kitchen
Bake the stuffing in a pan for 10 minutes

Cranberry Sauce: Take some cranberries, apple sauce, apples and some potatoes
Cook them in the oven until it dings
Then we eat it!!

Rolls: Put corn, frosting and sprinkles in a bowl or a dish
Get a knife and cut it in half
Roll up the dough. Put it in a pan and put it in the hot oven
Bake it for 50 seconds
Eat it when it is warm

Fruit Salad: You get some fruit from my house-lettuce, plums and bananas
Wash it all, and cook it in the kitchen where grandma painted the wall yellow
Use a silver knife to cut it and a fork to eat it with
I like bacon in my salad

Sweet Potatoes: Use orange stuff with black stuff in it
Put crunchy things in it
Cook them in a hot oven forever until the timer goes off

Vegetables: 1 carrot, 3 grapes, 2 potatoes, 4 pieces of corn
Cook them in the pot for 25 hours
Eat them with your best manners and your mouth closed
Do not talk with your mouth full!!

Apple Pie: Put some apples and some apple dough in the pie
Use some milk and sugar so the dough will not get on the rolling pin
Put some more apples and a little pepper in the pir
Bake for 6 minutes on top of the stove
Use a fork to eat it and don't chew with your mouth open

Salad: We need potatoes, tomatoes and strawberries
Cook them in the oven until we are finished playing with the toys
Put red flowers on it and eat

Pumpkin Pie: Flour, eggs, pumpkins, milk, chocolate pudding
Crack the eggs, stir it. Pour milk in. Cut the pumpkins
Cook it in a kind of hot oven for 6 minutes
You can put in 1 teaspoon more flour
Use a fork or spoon to eat!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate it!

Edit: Just to make sure it is clear, the recipe for each menu item was given by a different child. Our daughter only did the turkey.

Is it just me, or did she come a lot closer to the real ingredients for apple pie than she did with the other parts of the menu? Guess we know which part of the meal she looks forward to the most. [Smile]
