I got excited about Galaxies a few years ago when I first heard about it, but In all my years of gaming, the Truth is Lucas Arts is one of the WORST companies at resting on their fat NAME, and putting out a sub-par game because they know all the fan boys will buy it regardless.
Did anyone play the BountyHunter game???
It was like a lame-lame-lame PS1 game.
My mind goes back to the time when someone very close to Mr. Lucas looked me in the eye and said "the only thing George Lucas loves is money."

Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, and JKII aren't bad at all. Pretty damned good in fact.
So is Full Throttle...Monkey Island (Those are LA games, right, all of them?) Then there's Outlaws, which I very much enjoyed.

And then there's X-Wing, and Tie-Fighter, and X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter. I know there's more that I'm missing.
Actually I don't think I've ever played a Lucasarts game I didn't thoroughly enjoy, except perhaps for briefly on some of the Indiana Jones games which I never got into. Those were like mid-90s. I've played darn near a dozen Lucasarts games, though, and really liked all but one.
Then again, I've never played a one that was a console game exclusively.

I too am in pre-planning mode. I actually have to upgrade to DSL (along with running water and electricity) before I get in to Galaxies at all though, and that involves the CFO (my wife).

Yeah, but for every Jedi Knight II you have Force Commander or Rebellion. Also, the JK games were actually made by Raven software.

I separate the older 'classic' Lucasarts, such as Monkey Island and the X-wing games, from the current efforts. The ratio of good to bad has definitely shifted in recent years.

Pretty much...that happens a lot nowadays. Lucasarts is involved pretty much as management, and to provide the really good license.

Lucas Arts didn't have much to do with this game; it was put together by the same people who did Everquest and Ultima. Lucas Arts was used to make sure everything put into the gamed was the same as what was in the movies & books.
Everything I’ve seen all agree that the game itself is great except for one thing; it is very much like Everquest. If you don't like Everquest you won't like this game.

Personally from my experience with the beta, I would suggest waiting for a bit. There are a number of things that are still not working right and they have recently put through some massive changes that have not been ironed out really well yet. I am definitely suggest giving it a couple of months to iron out some of the lingering problems.

Hmm, tough call. I too love AoE II, super sweet game. Galactic Battlegrounds is EXACTLY the same, almost to the point of being silly. They invented some really stupid (IMO) resources so you still have 4 resources to collect. But, all in all, it is a fun game from what I have played. I mean, it is loads of fun to have Sith warriors as your high end melee units, or Darth Vader on the screen wreaking some serious havoc.
Bottom line, if you are REALLY into Star Wars, and can find it for $20-25 then I would say go for it. But I just have to say there are a lot of much better RTS games out there, in fact AoE II is superior in just about every way I think. But of course, Age of Mythology rules them all!

I bought and enjoyed Rebellion as well. Decent, but very annoying in some respects.
If you liked AOEII, you will like Galactic Battlegrounds. As a matter of fact, if not for the different graphics, you probably couldn't tell them apart. Okay, I exaggerate a bit.

I liked Rebellion because when it first came out, I was a hardcore Star Wars fan.
AOE2 is one of my all time favourite games; Galactic Battlegrounds couldn't help but be good. Yeah, there's a lot of silliness in it, but I still enjoy the AT-ATs and Wookie troops and the Sith lightning bolts.

Rebellion just dragged on and on - trying find/kill Vader and the Emperor was crazy hard, if I remember (it's been a long time).
