Okay, well after I got stood up by my New Year's Eve date last night (well, not really stood up, but that's a whole different long story), I suddenly found myself quite alone at 9:45 PM and decided to just run see a movie by myself. Of course, by this time, most of the theatre runs were already going, or else the next showing was not for several hours.
So I slipped into "Something's Gotta Give" just five minutes into the previews (but had to sit in the second row and crank my neck straight up).
BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!!
I'm not a huge Jack Nicholson fan, so I didn't really expect to like this movie, especially based on the previews I had seen -- I thought it would be gross and superficial, etc.
Instead, it was absolutely great.
However, I recommend it ONLY for those over 40 years of age Most of the comedy is all about being middle-aged, and only those of us in that era will get it, or at least enjoy it.
The chemistry between Nicholson and Diane Keaton was amazing. I laughed SO hard -- and cried so hard. Most everyone in the audience was 40+ (I noticed as I left) and everyone seemed to have loved the film.
I think I'm going to go back and see it again -- maybe WITH someone this time.
Bob_Scopatz -- you have GOT to see this film! I know you will love it.

I'm 32, and I thought that it was okay. I was pretty ready for it to be over by the time it ended though; it was a bit long for a comedy.

Well - I definitely qualify for the over 40 club.
Today is our 28th wedding anniversary and I will be bugging out early, taking my lovely wife to a movie then Dinner. I'll take your recommendation and try this flick (however, I may be cautious and not mention that the movie was recommended by farmgirl).
Thanks for the positive review.

Okay, Now I've had several people at work ask me if this movie is BETTER than "As Good As It Gets".
Well, I've never SEEN "As Good As It Gets."
So those of you who have seen both -- what would you answer? Is "Something's Gotta Give" better or worse? (If "As Good As It Gets" is better, than I've got to go rent it!)

You should rent "As Good as it Gets" anyway, farmgirl. While for someone of my age (25) it is a little bizarre to see wizened Jack with probably-older-than-she-looks Helen Hunt, it is still a very, very good movie.

Maybe I'll ask someone on a date and get stood up and THEN go see it. That apparently adds to the experience. And I think I can manage the getting stood up part pretty easily.
Grouchy, surly, jerk gets the girl because he buys her kid a decent doctor? She puts herself up to be treated like crap out of a spurt of gratitude engendered by gratitude for the one person who threw her a rope in a rotten situation?
At the end of the movie, all I could think was that I gave the relationship about a month and a half.

Saw it tonight. It was hilarious! And wonderful. Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson have the best on-screen chemistry for both of them in a long time.
This is one of the best romantic comedies I've ever seen.
Kat, I beg to differ. Nicholson in 'As Good as it Gets' was a man tortured by his OCD. All the characters were deeply flawed, if you recall. And the cool thing about the movie is how they each played to their strengths and let the others "IN" to help them. And how they overcame each others' faults.
It was a great movie, IMHO.

I can't remember Helen Hunt's flaw in "As Good As it Gets," from my POV, she was darn perfect. Her only flaw was money, and I guess Nicholson did solve that one.

Her flaw was simple. She'd shut herself away from love and used her son as an excuse for not living life.
