So last week my Dad calls and says that they are getting a new TV and would I like to have the old one?
Since I have been using the same Mitsubishi 20" TV for the last 15 years or so and this TV would be a 9 year old top of the line Toshiba 55" projection TV, I didn's say yes, I said Hell Yes.
So last night my brother, my best friend, a guy from work and I went over to move to TV from my parents house to my house. I had measured the TV and it was 1" narrower than the back of my van. As we were starting tip it over to slide it in the van, the other guys kept asking if I had measured twice. I had. There was about 1/2" on either side and it fit great. Not even enough room for it to rock.
So we get it to my place and we man-handle it down the stairs. We then move the old entertainment center up the stairs and out to the garage. Every one leaves and I get to set up a new TV with no manual. To some this might sound hard, but I used to sell/install/set up TV/VCR's/stereo's for a living. With in 10 minutes I had the picture going, the VCR hooked back up and the convergance set on the guns.

I feel your joys. I just bought a 32" Sony flat screen consule TV. I love it. Especially since I was watching a 19" POS prior to my purchase. I'm currently saving for a projector to go in the basement I'll be finishing this summer.

My entertainment area is in the basement. So we had to haul the TV down the stairs and the old center up the stairs.
As to what my parents got, that is what is so ironic about this.
My parents are very well off. Extremely well off. Really, really well off. So my Mom tends to buy the number one rated things from Consumers Reports, no matter the money.
This old TV of theirs had been built into a wall unit that they had custom made. So there is a certain size space for where the new TV had to go and had to fit. Dad did his research on flat/plasma TV and found one that he said would fit, with only about a 1/2" or so gap at the bottom of the face panel that covered the old TV. However, this unit was the worst rated one by CR. They buy it, had it delivered on Wednesday, and Dad mis-measured. There is an 8" gap. My Mom is fit to be tied.
What they will probably end of doing is having someone build them a whole new wall unit, take this new TV back and buy the really nice plasma TV when the new wall unit is done.
