I saw previews for this, but I never noticed when it came out. I like that he does not seek an explanation, like so many others would try to drive into us.

I think it comes from a cliche (that I've never heard of, or have heard of vaguely off in some recessed corner of my mind) about not looking at the Elephant in the room, ignoring something that's so obvious.
I really do like the just showing the audience idea instead of forcing someone's desicion of why down our throats. I wish more film makers would do that.

Hobbes, the Elephant in the Living room is I believe a childrens book. And I think it has been discussed here on Hatrack with reference to nutty grandmothers like Shan's and mine.
Yes. Long tracking shots. Often frustrating. Why do I need to watch a student walk across a large field? It was about 5 minutes of walking. Just walking.
The long periods where literally nothing happened leave me thinking this movie was basically a failure. Just pretentious.
It wasn't without its good points. There were several moments of incredible tension, where you are led to believe the rampage is about to begin, but doesn't.
And there's a scene where one of the violent kids plays Requiem on a piano. This scene seemed to last forever. It started as a quiet an poignant moment... and then just became pretentious and boring. Yeah, you can play Mozart. Great. Now go shoot up the school.

I realize that everyone and his duck came out saying the Columbine shootings proved that whatever they think is wrong with this country is wrong with this country. But it sounds to me like this film is just a big, long, "sh** happens" bumper sticker. If it has no meaning, then why is it any of my business?

Hobbes, if you really want to find it, you should definitely try Video Station. They seem to have almost everything there. I once went in looking for a movie that I didn't know the title of. I described it, and the guy totally knew the title and got it for me. Video Station is a great place.

Yah, I may on my way back from work today, since I've been getting up really early for the Tour de France, I'm just keeping the same schedual, only I go in 2.5 hours early now since there's no Tour to watch. I'd say it's a mixed blessing, but really it just sucks.

I do remember picking this video up at the rental store because it had a really cool cover. I admire movies that have really cool covers because so many of them don't.
Not that I checked it out - I think I was in a chick flick mood.

This is exactly why I'm going to be playing a prominent role in our future movie picking.
[EDIT: Foriegn movies are good too... if they're good movies, I still don't understand why they're any different than any other movies. Guess that's what you're here for, right? ]

I think you'll notice, then, Hobbesy, that I don't tend to stay awake for many movie picks outside of my current mood.
