Did you see the trailer for Batman Begins? Looks really good, looks like they're going for realism over the comic-book visuals of the earlier films. Can't wait to see it.

What about National Treasure? This film looks very interesting and Nicholas Cage usually picks good projects so I have high hopes. Personally, I think the preview went too far and gave away a little too much of the movie, but I still want to see it.

And finally Sean of the Dead. I laughed out loud more during this preview than I have in most of the feature comedies I've seen this year. It looks like Office Space meets 28 days later. Definitely on my list of movies to look forward too.

I laughed hilariously at the trailer for Without a Paddle (is that the name?). Laughed against my will mind you!!

I also was fired up to see a little bit of Batman...especially cause he's Christian Bale. Did you guys SEE him on the cover of Entertainment weekly a couple weeks ago? YOWZA!! There's some hunk draw power with that movie. [Smile]

*curious*

Who is this Christian Bale? I thought I recognized the flash of a semi-familiar face in the batman preview, but I couldn't figure out where I'd seen it. perhaps in Narnia's dreams?

I laugh my butt off every time I see the trailer for National Treasure. I mean, I'm just AMAZED that an idea that audaciously weird could actually be made into an apparently-semi-serious movie. It's cashing in on a brand of American hero-worship that hasn't been popular for decades, crossed with psycho conspiracy theory and mission-impossible-style feats of sneakery ... I don't know, man. I think it might cause a rift in the universe.

National Treasure is one of those movies that makes you put your hand to your face in despair...

...then I saw Sean Bean was in it, and I decided that I might see it after al (he he).

It's a fun game, spot the ex-LOTR actor. Karl Urban showed up as a Russian in the Bourne Supremacy (which was very good by the way).

Conspiracy theories, treasure hunting, and Nick Cage! What's not to like?

Oh, and Christian Bale is the guy from American Psycho, A Midsummer Night's Dream, the unfortunate Captain Corelli's Mandolin, and he played the villain in Shaft. But the role he should have won an Oscar for is the kid in Empire of the Sun.

Let's not forget Katie Holmes. Yum.

I think Christian Bale was also in Little Women.

And Newsies.

What surprised the crap out of me was that deep, manly voice coming out of Bale's throat. I was AMAZED. I have always heard him with some accent or another and never a voice as low as that. I thought it hasd to be a voice-over at first.

Shaun of the Dead looks absolutely fantastic. September 17th can't get here soon enough.

I'm glad to hear that Batman Begins might turn out to be good. I was basically ignoring it until VĂ¡na brought it up because she loves origin stories. Glad to have a good opinion cooberated (sp?)

Bale is a Brit, I think, so I think the American accent is the put-on. Though I don't know. He's one of those extremely convincing actors.

He was also in Velvet Goldmine *purrrr* and Reign of Fire (in which he made the best of a bad sitch, so cut him a break. Plus, he had his shirt off a lot. [Big Grin] ).

I read an interview with him after American Psycho in which the interviewer asked him if playing that kind of character gave him nightmares (There was something elementally horrifying about that movie, even through the dark humor. For me, it was a naked man with a chain saw *shudder* That's just WRONG on so many levels). Anyway, he said the only role he ever played that gave him nightmares was when he played Jesus for some TV thing. Gave him , like, stigmata nightmares.

Sorry. Just thought that was funny. [Smile]

while, ironically, Nicholas Cage's Italian accent in Captain Corelli . . . was absolutely terrible.

One of my college roommates was a Balehead (that's seriously what die hard fans call themselves). I got to hear more Christian Bale trivia than I ever wanted to, especially since I didn't want to hear any in the first place. I almost lost it when she interruped my due-the-next-day, 75%-of-the-grade, only-have-8-pages-written-and-am-started-to-panic paper writing when she found out that he is a vegetarian because his sister read him Charlotte's Web when he was six. She includes a comment about him in every single email or letter she writes to me.

So, I can tell you that Christian Bale is English, although he was born in Wales. His late father was married to Gloria Steinem.

My favorite movies of his are the highly underappreciated Metroland and Laurel Canyon.

I am really excited for the new Batman and I don't know how Samantha is going to survive until then.

Filming all around my office for the next couple weeks.... needless to say my daily commute is completely messed up. [Wall Bash] I guess someone took a look at Lower Wacker Drive and decided it was a great "road to the BatCave" site. But do I get any chances to try and schmooze with stars???? Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wacker... ah, I remember it well. [Smile] Sorry about the commute, though.

The movie "Summer Rental" with John Candy, filmed a scene at Ron's old house. His parents had had a lot of land, and built a bigger huse next door and moved. They popped popcorn and sat on their deck watching the filming. The truck that held the camera/crane blocked the street for two days (and the scene was less than a minute on screen). Mr. Candy smelled the popcorn, and somebody asked if he could have some. So Ron made some more, took it over, and got to chat for a little while. [Smile]

What that story has to do with this thread is anybody's guess.

BTW, I'm not really a Balehead, but I did sort of the schoolgirl crush thing on him when I saw Empire of the Sun, even though I'm a couple years older than him. Hard to believe that angelic face belonged to someone who would later have a love scene with Ewan McGregor. *le sigh*
