No, I've never heard of it, Eduardo, but you should ask that druid guy in your game to check it out for you and see if it's legit. He's from South Carolina. Wow I really hope you come to the States, especially to the southeast! Then we would definitely have to have Eduardocon and it would be in Atlanta! <highfives>
It's a private organization, it says, but it sounds like it assists you in finding a job with the State of South Carolina as a schoolteacher and charges you no fee. Find out how it gets its money. There's no place on the site that shows you how to make a donation, and it doesn't say it's a nonprofit (which would be what a philanthropic organization would be). I think I would want to know before I gave them a lot of personal information, who funds them and why.

I tried, but I really couldn't find any info about funding. Well...the person who sent me (one of my old College teachers) the link is very reliable, and this org. has big ads in some of the biggest Brazilian newspapers.
I don't know...maybe I'm being a little paranoid, but still...
Anyway, Tatiana, I'll check with the druid. Thanks!

The program headquarters is actually right down the road from me, here in Columbia. I have seen several articles in local papers over the last couple years about it, and it is supposed to be a very good program.
South Carolina is near the bottom of the pack in just about every category to measure education from state to state, and this is one of the new programs they have come up with to fix the problems. The state's scores on standardized testing and graduation rates have been improving the last few years, due to all the different changes that have been made, but I can't say how much this particular program has had an impact.
Anyway, it is sponsored by the state of South Carolina and the city of Columbia, so I would say it is fairly reliable as far as giving out personal information.
Wouldn't it be ironic if South Carolina got a second hatracker only because ed moved here from South America? Or am I the only person who would find that funny.
I will attempt to find articles about the program in the local newspapers and send you links to any I find.
p.s. I love Hatrack. Any day now I'm going post a request on the meaning of life and how to make shoes, and someone - probably the same person - will be able to answer.

Sorry Eduardo, I looked for information in the papers, but I don't have a subsription so I can't search back far enough.
I have requested that the chamber of commerce send me information regarding FACES funding and any other information they have. I'll let you know what I find out.

Chicago and NewYorkCity school districts are just some of the many in the top 100 largest which are recruiting foreign teachers.
While I wouldn't recommend using this site for job hunting -- I don't know anything whatsoever about their business practices -- their page does give a fairly accurate overview of American school recruitment of foreign teachers.
If you are willing and able to further educate yourself, a degree in math and sciences is almost a guarantee that you can get a teaching job and a permanent resident status. Permanent resident status is better than an HB1 visa because the HB1 ties you to a specific employer. If you quit that job, even to accept a better job with a new employer, the HB1 visa is automaticly revoked, and you must return to your country of origin to reapply for a new work visa.
And before you say go Clemson again, I would advise you to compare our football records this year. I wouldn't advertise being a Clemson fan if I were you.

By the way, all the research I've done this morning says that the operation is legitimate, so I wouldn't worry about it too much Eduardo.
In answer to the funding question, FACES is paid a fee by the school for finding a teacher to bring in. They don't need donations because essentially they are paid by the government.

Hmmmm .... a couple of South Carolina Hatrackers? A former South Carolina Hatracker now residing in Arkansas here. I don't know about other parts of the state, but my sister in law had a HELL of a time getting into the school system in Anderson. It seems to be based on nepotism. She decided to get out of that rat race and stayed at Winn Dixie.
