Well he called last night (from a number that i don't know, different area code 803-622-7588) and said, "I'm from the Bloomington branch of the DNA department and i have a cow here... Thats when i just set my phone down and left him talking (it was about 1 am), The he called back (I let my voice mail pick it up) from a "private #" and said the same thing, only added on to the story, apparently i have gotten a cow pregnant and he had only one question for me, "when you were having sex with the cow, did it moo?"....

I have to give credit for creativity, but I mean come on..... WHY....

I have to admit, I have done prank phone calls before, but always to businesses where i knew someone who was working (like calling stake and shake and asking them if there milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard). But pranking someone house # at one in the morning is just ridiculouss.... [Mad]

edit:i can't spell

The time is lame, but the joke itself is actually kind of amusing. [Smile]

I agree, The joke has potential, that is, if it came at like 7 to 10 pm.... I have to admit, if i wasn't tired i would have played along and said, "No, she's more of a breather" but at that hour of the night, I'm not in a playful mood.

When I was in high school I got in trouble. Some one was doing something very similar to a friend of mine, and they were using my name.

Maybe we should all just start calling him at 1am.

I used to work at a hotel front desk, years ago. One time, while I was very busy and had a lot of check ins, I got a phone call asking for the room of Mr. MeHoff. So here I was in front of all the guests trying to check-in looking up a Mr. MeHoff in the computer, "No sir I can not find a Mr. MeHoff, can you give me a first name?.. Jack? No I don't seem to have a Mr. Jack MeHoff registered. Sure I can look again, could you spell that for me? No I'm sorry I don't have a Mr. Jack MeHoff registered." Let me tell you the guests got quite a giggle. [Blushing]

I remember once in middle school we called the operator from a pay phone and asked to be connected to Ben Dover. Not only did she not get the joke, she actually connected us to a guy named Ben Dover. Of course at that point the person holding the phone started laughing and said "your name is Ben Dover? That sucks" at which time Mr. Dover hung up on us.

For some odd reason, we all thought it was very amusing...but I guess it does not take much to amuse a 12 year old.

Calling at 1 in the morning is quite annoying though. The only time that is justified is if you are trying to get the person you called to apologise for calling you. In that case the amusement factor makes up for the annoyance factor. At least that was what I told myself as a kid.

Though...I think the all time best prank was the time we prank called every single room in a hotel. I still think that was funny, over a decade later.

Though, I do think the bad karma I built up as a kid will come back to get me some day. Though, since we usually only pranked other teens (at youth group retreats and such) I guess the bad karma gained was not all that bad.

I like it when I send a fax and instead of the machine get someone who doesn't know that the beeping they hear is the fax signal. They get so mad sometimes, cursing and threatening the person they think is calling. [Big Grin]

Of course, I could stop the auto-redial once I see they don't know what's going on, but that's just no fun.

When we moved into our house, we had to get a new phone number (switched carriers). They had a very easy-to-remember number available, so I picked that one. It was a huge mistake. Our number is only one digit different than the phone number used for remote access to Qwest voicemail. And it's only one digit different than a large rehab clinic in town. And one digit different than a busy optometry shop. The first few months, we got calls all day and all night. It was not uncommon to get calls at 3am with a surprised person on the other end thinking he was picking up his voicemail. I didn't have much heartburn with those people, but I did get pretty testy about the people calling the rehab clinic at 1am.

And then there was the time that the rehab clinic accidentally put *our* phone number on one of their fliers.

It doesn't happen that often now (the middle of the night calls), though we do get at least few wrong phone number calls a day.

My Dad got a call once because there was a bailbondsman in town with the same name.

2:00 AM, guy calls, "I need you to bail me out of jail."

"Who are you and why would I bail you out of jail?"

"Aren't you <firstname> <lastname> the bail bond guy?"

"No."

"But I only get one phone call. You've got to help me!"

Anyone who doesn't hide their phone number when making prank calls deserves what they get.

A friend of mine, Rusty, in high school had a phone number that started with 549. The other prefixes in town were 542 and 545 and all of our other friends had these prefixes so quite often when calling Rusty I would dial 545 by mistake. So did a couple other friends of mine. The lady whose number we were calling got quite angry after a while and finally one day burst out on the phone that Rusty was dead!

I think we called her to offer our condolences the next day. [Evil Laugh]

Someone calls our dorm room every night at 4 am. When we hang up they call again every 5 minutes until we unplug the phone. Recently we caught on and started unplugging out phone every night.

blacwolve, you need to call the phone company and have them monitor the line and catch the SOB.

We told our RA and she says that she talks to the police periodically about prank phone calls. I don't know who provides our service. I never use the dorm phone because I have a cell phone.

In my residence hall, I used to get fax calls at 4AM to 6AM from some sales group. Our Information Systems group didn't help much, and I wound up setting my computer to receive some of the faxes, so I could figure out who was behind it.

The company that I worked for developed the event called "Phone Tag" for singles bars where phones were set up at every table with large numbered balloons over the table. The idea was that if you saw someone you liked at a different table, instead of risking a face to face rejection, you called their table and tried to break the ice that way.

It was a hit and opened up in many clubs in the midwest.

The first club that tried "Phone Tag" in the area was an A-Rated hotel club in St. Louis. I'm not sure I should give their name since they behaved like idiots. It took three months of this service for the costs to cover the cost of installation. The owner of the company was very trusting. His contract had no protection in it.

So this hotel rented "Phone Tag".

The company spent two weeks installing the hard line phones (this was way before cell phones were popular) ran it for a month, and then were told despite its incredible success, the hotel club was kicking us out.

The company ate the loss and moved on.

A month later my boss was surprised when the hotel announced the return of "Phone Tag."

They saw that the system worked, and copied it.

Accept for one small flaw.

Where the company I worked with brought their own phone switch into the club, the hotel figured they could just use the phone switch they had at the front desk.

This "A-Rated" hotel allowed hundred's of drunk patron to call their guests rooms all through the night.

The result was the same as hundreds of practical jokers raiding the hotel at once.

But we called it Justice.
