So, on the second day of KamaCon Annie wrote an advert on the whiteboard in the hospitality room entitled "Free Pants." Seems she had drawn a design on a pair of black jeans with a bleach pen, and they had ended up being too short for her, so she was giving them away.
Now, I'm an inch or two shorter than Annie, plus I'm long-waisted, so my legs are proportionately even shorter. ( dkw got the long-legs gene.) so I told her I was interested, and she said she had done kinda an oriental-style design on them. I was picturing something maybe the size of my palm on a back pocket. And from what I knew of Annie so far, I was pretty sure it would be cool.
She brought them up the next morning... the design, instead of being a little thing on a back pocket, covered one whole leg, hip to hem, and was unbelievably fabulous. I pounced immediately, of course. They ended up fitting, and even being a little too long... which is good, since it means I can wear platforms underneath and pretend I have normal-length legs.
So I wore them to work yesterday. Everybody commented on how cool they were, from the first person who saw me walking in to my barista when I went for coffee to the hostess when I went out for dinner last night. I could have sold 5 or 6 pairs in my office alone, not to mention the people who stopped me on the street. Most people thought I must have bought them this way... I got a few incredulous "You didn't do that yourself, did you?" questions, and the rest asked some variation on "Where did you find those?" To all, I replied: "Oh, my friend Annie did it. Isn't it awesome?"
Since I am an admitted attention-whore, I had a great day yesterday. And I just wanted to echo Hobbes's frequent refrain about how talented, lovely, and wonderful Annie is. Thanks again, Annie!

<stealing from ElJay's comments in one of the KamaCon threads>
I can see the marketing campaign now:
"Get into Annie's pants!"
"Everyone is into Annie's pants!"
We could have the photos turned into that coloring book thing that Javert did with his Kamacon photos. And then we could have coloring contests for Annie's pants. Then show a worker making them saying "I'm dying for Annie's pants."
Then, there will be other products, blouses, hats, etc.
We could have ads with some woman wearing one of the new blouses saying: "I have something to get off my chest...
Annie's pants!"
So, ElJay, where's the photos? You modeled the Kamacon shirts so well...I would think and attention seeker (refrains from calling his future sister in law a "whore" even though she used that term herself!) would be posting pics galore by now!!!
The world wants to see you in Annie's pants!
Who's with me on this???

mack, you can wear them next time we're in the same town. We're about the same size, I'm sure they'd fit... and I'll loan you the chutzpah, too. That's one size fits all.

Is it literally a pen in which the ink has been replaced by bleach? Or is it a special device made for the dispensing of bleach in a controlled fashion?
I'm simply amazed at the "feathering" effect shown in the pictures. I'm sure that takes artistic talent and skill, but I'm having trouble imagining the delivery mechanism that would allow such fine-tuned application of bleaching agents to fabrics. It is way cool.

I have one, since Mom bought a three-pack and likes giving me stuff. It has come in handy for removing small stains from white shirts, and I've been contemplating cleaning my tile grout with it, but it would have never occurred to me to use it in this fashion.

If that's true (i.e., that Annie used a Clorox brand bleach pen to do this), I think the Clorox company would be VERY interested.

Yes, the Clorox brand bleach pen was the culprit, and quite by accident. My sister and I were at Target and, for some reason, desperately needed bleach. Lo and behold, the only bleach you can buy at target is a combo pack of spray-on OxiClean and 3 Clorox bleach pens.
So, we got them home and I was playing with the pen, trying to get my sister to let me bleach something colorful of hers. We did fish scales on a pair of pants she owned and drew an electric guitar on a blue shirt. We were so excited about this new-found marvel that we were bleaching every article of clothing we could find. That's where the chinese bleach pants came from.
I'm glad they were such a hit! I was hoping they'd find a good home, and I'm glad I thought to bring them to KamaCon.

Noeman, it was not intentional. Alas, I am not that clever. I had to go back and re-read my post to figure out what you were talking about.
mack, I bet we mass about the same, but I am hippy, and if I recall you are not. You're probably broader across the shoulders, but that won't affect wearing pants. So, yeah... unless you were saying that the pants would be to big for you, in which case I apologize.

Sheesh, Annie! Way to sell cheap what is most dear!
<Starts looking through closet for best pants to send>
They ought to be the fitted sort for it to look right, don't you think? And most of mine are loose. But I think I can dig some up that are a little more snug.

You know, I finally figured out that no one's actually wearing the pants in the picture. I thought that someone was standing waaay too close to the pants model.

Annie, I'd love a pair, too, but I think I'll have to go out and buy some pants. I'll email you if I find a suitable pair. *hates pants shopping*
I had a student worker who made these really great jeans, too, by ripping the leg seams and sewing a colorful triangle of fabric in to make flared legs.
I'm not sure if it is inappropriate or not, but I also really loved rivka's black beaded hair covering. Is there somewhere I could get one?

Ooooh, a couple years ago at work they tried to say we couldn't wear jeans on Fridays anymore. I searched though my, my mom's, and dkw's closet and found all the denim we owned. I wore blue denim skirts, dresses, and jumpers every day for two weeks. The last day I wore a skirt that dkw made for me, by taking a pair of levis and ripping out the seams and sewing in a lovely floral tapestry fabric... so there was a large triangle of it in front and back, and then we put in a smaller triangle on each side seam, to flare it out a bit more. It was lovely. It is lovely, I still wear it regularly.
We got our jeans Fridays back... not 'cause of me, that was just my own little silent protest. But I love that skirt.

What I really want to get my hands on is some of that reflective saftey tape that they use on highway workers' vests and put stripes of it down the side seams of a pair of jeans.
Manipulating clothing is so much fun...

I wouldn't want to wear jeans every day, so I'm fine with the fact that I'm not supposed to. (Note please that I did not say "can't." 'Cause I do, on occasion, wear jeans on other days of the week.) I like wearing skirts and dresses. But it's still really nice on Fridays to know that I can just get up and pull on jeans. And there was absolutely no reason to take it away. Stupid corporate policies.

Something I've always wanted to do is make a skirt out of a bathmat with the suckers on the outside. I can't stand the thought of getting stuck to chairs, though. I wonder if there's something I can do to the suckers to make them not, um, sucky. I thought of cutting a slit in each but that might be too obvious.

Annie, I found the pair I want you to do. Email me the snail mail address at annekateard AT bham DOT rr DOT com.
Total freedom to do whatever strikes your fancy, but dragon themes do suit me (Draetakenna, you know) and anything else you think of that reminds you of me would be super cool.
I am trying to finish Anna's sweater I've been knitting for a year now, and am nearly done. It's got all sorts of symbolism knitted into intricate patterns I designed that come from our shared experiences, our friendship, dreams we've told each other, and so on. It's been the greatest fun! Sort of like weaving my love for her into corporeal form for her to wear. Also I put tons of harrypottermom mojo into the weave, to keep her safe from all harm. I will post pics after she's received it.

Only poke holes in the ones in back, though, so you don't stick to chairs. Leave the ones on the side, so you can casually lean your hip against a wall, and then make cool popping sounds as you pull away.
